View Full Version : Flip a single layer?

I am working with Elements 4. On occasion, in the process of an image edit, tutorials will tell me to flip or rotate a given layer. When I do so all of the other layers flip or rotate as well even if they have been locked down. Is rotating or flipping a single selected layer not possible in Elements 4?

I may be wrong, but try turning off (eye) all layers except the one you want to flip.

Hi Fish - Sorry, that does not seem to work, but I appreciate the input.

Simenon - don't feel bad, a lot of people miss that lower down in the list of Rotate choices are things like Rotate Layer, Flip Layer -- as opposed to just Rotate and Flip, at the upper end of the list.

I don't know what to say. I DO feel bad. This came up two days in a row and each time I copied my layer to a new file, did the flip, and then dropped it back on the original edit. Sheesh.
Thanx Byron.

Simeon,
If I drag one image onto the other, I am able to get either of them to rotate seperately by --- holding down CTRL and clicking on the thumbnail in the layers pallet. Then go to Image> Rotate>Flip Horizontal or Vertical.

Doug,
That works because you place a selection marquee around the layer when you CTRL-click the layer thumbnail.

This catches us all. I still sometimes end up flipping the whole canvas when I want to flip only one layer. :o
There is a line in the menu - above the line flips the whole canvas with all the layers - below the line works on single layers. Make sure you are on the layer you want to rotate prior to going to that menu.

Ok - thanx to all for the added input.
