Hi to all. My question is. After completing all post processing and saving the jpg file in a version set with the Orf file in the My Pictures folder is there a way to include the Exif data within the version set and then be able to read it without using the PSE5 organizer. This would be of great benefit to me as I study my mistakes. Can anyone assist me with this? Thank you. Carl.

What is "the Orf file"?

If you have a .jpg file that has Exif information, it can be read outside of Elements using freeware programs like Irfanview or Opanda IExif.

If you add tags, captions, GPS locations to a photo in PSE, then you could write that information to the file by selecting the appropriate photo(s) in PSE and then choosing File->Write Tags and Properties Info to Photos. After that, Irfanview or Opanda IExif should find your tags, captions and GPS info.

Hi dj paige & thank you for your reply. 1st to ans. your question "What is the Orf file"? Orf-(I think it means Olympus raw file) is the raw image files for my Olympus E500. They are non-viewable files and must be converted to a viewable file format-I use Jpg.

Regarding the two programs you suggested-I think they would only be duplicating what I already do with PSE 5 so I shall pass on them. I was hoping the Exif info could be attached to the Jpf images somehow.

If anyone can assist me with this I will appreciate it much. Thank you. Carl

Carl: Not quite sure I understand the problem. I assume you are opening the .ORF files in PSE5 in which case they will open in Adobe Camera Raw. After doing any edits and Open Image I assume that you are then saving as a JPEG. In that case the EXIF Info should transfer over to the JPEG. And, in the editor, you should see it in File Info. That said there does seem to be a problem with some cameras in that not all info is transferred over - are you saying you don't get any EXIF data in the JPEG?

Hi Tony. Everything works correctly as long as I use the organizer to view the images. What I would like is to be able to see the exif info and the jpg image simultaneously when viewing the jpg image in My Pictures in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Is this possibl? Carl.

It still not clear what you want to do. The Exif information should always be embedded in the .jpg files that you create from the Raw files. You can view the Exif info in Organizer or any one of a number of other programs.

But now you mention Windows Picture and Fax viewer for the first time, and its not clear why you want to use that, but I do not believe that Windows Picture and Fax viewer will show you the Exif information. There must be 20 different ways of viewing the Exif, so why won't one of those other ways do what you want? Please explain further.

I have weak eyesight and the monitor screen is easier to read at 800 x 600 pixels then at the 1024 x 768 pixels used by PSE 5. Now I found the solution for my challenge. Bring up a jpg image in My Pictures, right click it, click "properties", click the "advanced button" click the "summary" tab and there is the EXIF data I want to review. Thanks for making me work through this. Carl.
