I have a folder of files I need to rename. In the editor I choose Edit>Process Multiple Files. I choose the folder source and destination. But the Rename Files check box is greyed out, nothing happens when I click on it. The resize box is active, if I wanted to resize these files. But I don't, I want to rename them.

Can anybody help me?

Some of the boxes can appear greyed out because of the gray background. If clicking inside the box doesn't produce a check mark, try resetting the preference files. Quit PSE and re-open while holding down shift/control/alt keys to bring up that window.

james, I've just spent a frustrating 30 minutes trying to reset the preferences. According to the Missing Manual I need to start the Editor from the Organizer and then immediately press shift/control/alt.

I press ctrl-I to start the Editor and immediately press shift/ctrl/alt. For a while I kept getting the scratch disk preferences or an error telling me the system is busy doing something else. After about 10 tries I then started getting a small dialogue box saying "Building artwork" with a progress bar. But I never get a preferences dialog box. I've probably tried this 50 times now, never getting preferences.

I also tried shift/control/alt when starting up the Organizer from the desktop icon. All it did was slow down the startup.

Any suggestions?

Kent,

The Ctrl-Alt-Shift dance is a little tricky and incorrectly documented in Adobe’s Help. Here’s a detailed recipe:

1. Start the PSE 6 Welcome screen from the Windows Start menu.

2. Hold down Ctrl-Alt-Shift and click Edit.

3. Keep holding down Ctrl-Alt-Shift until you see a little dialog box that says, “Delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?”
