Hello. I read one of the earlier threads and while my question is similar, it's different. I want to change a picture to black and white but I want to keep the eye color. I selected the iris' and then feathered and then did a "select invert" to change everything else to back and white but thought I was keep the blue eye color; however, the eye color changes as well. What did I do wrong?

Hi Kathy. Selective coloring is a multilayer/masking process. There is a tutorial in the subscriber area that is very helpful.

Basically the process is as follows:
1. duplicate the background layer (or full color layer that has been retouched as needed)
2. Convert new layer copy to B&W using your favorite method
3. Attach a mask to the B&W layer (Grants tools - mask)
4. Use a soft brush and color back in black on the mask the parts you want the color to show through from the original layer.

Kathy,

The simplest way to do this would be to convert your picture to B&W by creating a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and taking the saturation slider all the way to the left and then taking a brush and painting (with black) the eyes back in on the adjustment layer's mask.
