How can I create my own personal DVD menu?

I want to create my own personal DVD menu with music playing. Is that possible and how?

This was copied from the Adobe Help menu within PE4.


1. Open the Photoshop Elements Editor.
2. Choose File > New > DVD Template Editor.

Follow the on-screen instructions to create either a new DVD template or edit an existing template.

Create other elements for your template, such as a special background color or text. (See Photoshop Elements Help for instructions.)

Enter a name for the template and click Save. You can use a naming convention similar to the provided templates, or any name that distinguishes it for your purposes.

Photoshop Elements saves the files to the correct location and format so that they can be seen and used in Adobe Premiere Elements. When you create a DVD in Adobe Premiere Elements, your templates appear in the DVD Templates dialog box.

Note: Templates are stored in the Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0/DVD Templates folder, inside template and theme folders. If you want to delete a template, you can manually delete the file from this location. To restore any of the provided templates you delete, you must reinstall Adobe Premiere Elements.

hi everyone,

I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 and the Premiere Elements 2.0 Tryout Version installed, but there is no such menu entry to create a DVD template. In the help I haven't found anything about such a functionality.

Do I require an add on or such a thing to have the functionality activated in my Photoshop Elements 2.0?

Hi Alex,

Unfortunately, you have to upgrade to Elements 4.0 to be able to create your own DVD menu. If creating the menu's is that important then I would certainly upgrade. Download the trial version and give it a spin :)

i have photoshop elements 4.0 and i was wondering if i can make my own dvd menu buttons, i am able to make my own template using the premade buttons, but i would like to create my own buttons, is this possible or do i need a different program? thanks, Nicole

Check me out on this. In order for you to have the DVD Create Wizard in Photoshop Elements 4.0, you need to have the specific combination of Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0 installed on the same computer. No other Photoshop Elements version Premiere Elements version combo does it.

Also, my understanding is that Adobe no longer offer Photoshop Elements 4.0 tryouts...only Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0.

Any suggestions for free download of Photoshop Elements 4.0?

If you really want to create DVD Menus from scratch, take a look at this Thread for some background information and how tos:

HOWEVER, consider the modification of an existing DVD menu template to achieve your goal of "personalized DVD menu with music".

When you get to Premiere Elements's DVD menu template options, pick one that has the "AV" designation before its name, example, in Entertainment, AV Night Vision Menu. The AV indicates that the DVD menu contains audio and video.

In the Properties Palette to the right, you can browse and replace the image portion of the menu with an image of your choice. Since you have selected an "AV" template, there will be an audio section in the Properties where you can browse and replace the original audio with an audio of your choice. There are a sorts of things that you can do to personalize (not "create from scratch") DVD menu template for your project.

Also, if I am correct and you do need the combo Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0 for the Wizard to show up in Photoshop Elements 4.0, then you will need to find downloads for both these programs. Adobe is not offering them anymore as far as I know.

Are you creating DVD Menus for Premiere Elements 3 in Photoshop 5 or editing existing ones in Photoshop Elements 5?

Marion and I have been exchanging comments in her thread here on Photoshop DVD Menu creation for Premiere Elements 4. If you are creating DVD menus in Photoshop, not Photoshop Elements editing of existing ones, and also use your creations in Premiere Elements 4, I would be curious to learn if you have been successful at that.
