I've had Elements 5.0 for quite awhile now and have never had any problems with it acting up. Now all of a sudden my letter spacing (tracking) is way off. I don't know if I've done something in another program that's affected this one or what, but I need help fixing it. The letters are always spaced really far apart. The image below shows what I'm talking about. The font used is standard Times New Roman. I seem to have the same problem no matter what font I use. I've tried turning on and off the Asian font setting, but to no avail. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Hi, The attachment won't open. But you can try to reset the tools. There is a down arrow at the very left of the bar on top of the image. Click that and reset this tool or all tools.

In another thread Wendy suggested deleting preferences to jump start some strange results. Here is how:

Try deleteing the prefs file. To do that:

Close down Elements then click on the Editor start up icon and quickly hold down the Control, Alt and Shift keys (Mac users Command, Option and Shift). Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes.

If this doesn't work, I am sure someone else will come along soon to have you try something else.

Have you had Asian Text Options switched on? Because merely switching it off doesn't work, even if the option isn't showing in the toolbar. You need to go back and switch it on, then make sure it is set to 0% and then go back and switch it off again in preferences.

Thanks so much efarnstrom! That's a great trick to know. It did the job and I'm back to normal now.

Thanks again!

I had also been having another problem with viewing grayscale images. It had started putting a purplish color on all of my black and white photos when I viewed them there. I had contacted Adobe about it and they couldn't come up with a solution. Now it's fixed and I know what to do next time I have a problem.

Thanks again, again!

Many other people also recommend doing this to fix weird things that come along. I never had to use this, but it stuck in my mind that others had seen results from it.

I see you have done the one thing that makes this site so successful! You posted in another thread how this action helped you and might help another problem. Thanks for being there when someone needs you!:D
