I would like to take a photo and set the opacity of it to fade it down a bit and then lay smaller pictures on top of that to customize a layout for a photo album page. How do I set the opacity of just the background image?

Thank You

Hello Pokk,
- Convert the Background to ordinary layer (New > Layer from Background)
- Define its opacity at the top of the Layers palette

I would add one thing to that. Once you've converted your BG layer to an ordinary layer, put a new layer beneath it (hold down the Ctrl button as you click on the new layer icon) and then fill this new layer with white - otherwise when you reduce the opacity of the BG layer you're going to see the checkerboard effect showing through....

Just to say, follow Bayla's tip or you'll be disappointed.

Thanks from me, Bayla. I never thought of making a layer & filling it with white. I just never quit learning from all of you.

Thank you all for your input. I have not tried this yet but I understand it I think. I will put this to use tonight.
