unattached files

WHY does PSE5 see fit to unattach every file that has ever visited another photo program? Is that my prob.? I even used a trial of lightroom and 6...almost 95% of my files are "X" out in red and will not focus unless I search for the match. Is there an easier way? I have used help in the past. I can research again. THanks,

If a file has been moved, either by you or by another program, then the file has become disconnected.

If some global move has happened to a lot of files, the easiest way to reconnect the files is to move them back to where Elements thinks they should be, using Windows tools.
