managed files and folder view

Help please, with an Organizer question. When I use folder view some folders show a "picture in folder" icon, and some do not have the icon but I can see them by using Reveal in Explorer. Does this icon represent "managed" files? How do I get those photos into my All Photos collection?

I hope somebody has run into this before when combining photos from various sources.:confused:

It appears that you are quite right. When a picture is in a folder but no picture from that folder is yet pulled into the Organizer, the "picture present" icon does not show for that folder in folder view.

To get the pictures pulled into Organizer, use File>Get Photos and Video>From Files and Folders.

thanks Jon, I just wanted to make sure I had it figured out.

I think the reason I had so much trouble was that I brought files from my desktop onto the ehd and then worked on the laptop with the ehd. I've gone to a new route now, I save the desktop files to cd and then use get photos when I am on the laptop.

Organizer is not very user friendly and has a huge learning curve. Makes me wish I'd stuck to ACDSee. It is reassuring though to have folks to check with online.

That is the best source to learn about Organizer. Although written for v3 the concepts are the same. And since the book is old, you can find it used at a good price.
