I have a number of .png files that I use for scrapbooking. When I load them into the editor, they have the traditional black/white checked background which I thought meant that the background was transparent.
When I layer them on top of background paper, the image has a white background around it instead of being transparent.
What setting do I need to change to keep the transparency?
Thanks!

If you are having difficulty with this same issue, here is the response I got, from a posting on a scrapbooking website (which worked!)
Depending on how you pull the item into the elements 6 workspace, it sometimes becomes a "smart object" and that will give that box effect.
Try select/all then....edit/copy and then edit/paste to see if it still does the same thing.

That actually worked. When I dragged and dropped a png file with a transparent background onto a plain colored background image, it did come in with a white box around it, and when I flattened the image, the white box survived - the transparent background did not survive! But when I used select all and copy of the png file and then pasted onto the colored background, the white box did not come with it and the colored background showed right up to the subject. Thanks for a nice tip.

Jon,
if you are in maximise mode, open a new page then open your PNG and drag from the viewing area down onto your page in the photo bin.
Your PNG will be OK then.

Thx. I dragged up from the bin which didn't work well. Odd that one should work not the other.
