problem with tools

I am having a problem with my tools!! When I click on them I get nothing!! I can't do anything. This is completely new two days ago I could use every tool now nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I fix it?

Erica, a little more info please. What version of Elements? Are you on a Mac or PC? Have you exited and tried to restart? Shut down the computer and rebooted?

Can you access the menus at the top, e.g., load a file, or start a new file?

Is your mouse working? Can you activate a tool with the shortcut key strokes, e.g, hitting "V" for the move tool?
