I'm not quite sure how to ask this question. What I want to do is duplicate
a scanned in image -- a pencil sketch on lined paper (blue lines) -- and
somehow eliminate the blue lines.
Rather than tediiously try to erase the blue lines, is there a simple way --
perhaps using channels? --- that will duplicte the image, a black pencil sketch
on a white background, e.g., one without the underlying blue lines?
Thanks,
Hal

On a whim you can try to select the lines using the "magic wand" tool, with contiguous unchecked. Play with the tolerance a bit it may work.
Then hit delete once they are all selected.

Another way you can try it...first zoom in on your image so that you can see the blue clearly. Then go to toolbar>Enhance>Adjust color>replace color. With the eye dropper tool within this menu select the blue from your image...the blue color you selected will show up in the little preview box within this replace color menu. Then just reduce the saturation completely and raise the 'lightness' slider until the paper turns white. You'll be able to preview this on your image(make sure 'preview' box is checked) which makes it easier.

...I was assuming you had both black and blue lines on your sketch and that you only wanted to remove the blue lines...if this isn't what you wanted to do please post back.
