After trying for at least two years, I've finally succeeded in getting a picture of the Blue Morpho butterfly. In that time I've succeeded in getting lots of blurry photos and in focus photos with closed wings, but nothing with wings open. At last!

And what a beauty she is! Congratulations on a great catch. I hope you took coffee breaks while waiting though as two years is a long time to wait;)

Great picture. Butterflies are one of my favorite things to photograph. I have a lot of butterfly pictures from when I was shooting with film and am in the process of putting them on disk so I can work with them in PSE. Glad you finally got your shot. That was long time coming.

That's so gorgeous! How nice of the butterfly to pose for you on that pink flower, too. :)
So what's next on your list? ;)

Wow. That's so gorgeous it almost looks fake! (Why is that a compliment? I don't know, but it is!). This is the sort of thing that makes me covet a better (read SLR) camera. TFS, Shar

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments. I took this at a Butterfly House. This butterfly always closes its wings as soon as it lands so it's very difficult to get a photo. With its wings closed it looks like a very plain brown butterfly - until it flies off and you see that gorgeous blue color.

Anita, I was at a Butterfly Haven today and there were the Blue Morphs. I thought about it taking you 2 years to get that gorgeous photo. I watched and followed them around for a while and have a even a greater appreciation of your photo because they never landed with their wings open. Great job!!
