A very nice start people! I will comment individually in the next couple of days. I just wanted you to know my big cat eyes are watching you, so keep it up!
I'm out to pick up some paint chips to study. I suddenly have a hankering to redecorate my workbench.

Wow! Doesn't this look trippy, four Kit Kat Klocks in a row?

...Oprah is doing a show this week on Obsessive Compulsive disorder with a special guest who straights up grafitti walls .... :p

Now, when can you stop by and take care of my garage??:D

Steve-I appreciate the variety of choices!! We certainly have people here with a lot of imagination. I am constantly amazed to see what people come up with.

I wish I could have had a crop shape in the shape of speed racer's car-and I didn't know how to crop the picture out in the shape of his car. Can we add crop shapes from somewhere?

Thanks & kudos to all who participated!

Val,
I laughed with tears in my eyes after reading your comment. In real life I do not have OCD. You will not see me on Oprah as that guest. I promise!!!!
I needed a good laugh today,

These have been great fun- Thanks Steven!
Sorry to hear that Christell won't be cleaning up for us. If I learn that Choplets aren't pork-flavored candy I'll be really bummed out.

Pete- I love your breakout result.

Kim- Those aliens are a great idea!
& I repeat..."I DO NOT HAVE OCD". Just look at that dirty garage I did.

A great job everyone and a nice variety of submissions! Ellen, I hate to bum you out, but Choplets are Vegetable Fillets that “Contain No Meat.” And the primary ingredient is wheat gluten.

Val- Three great images and what speed you had in posting the first one! 20 minutes and you crossed the finish line; is this a race? I especially liked your peacock one, for I haven’t thought of the NBC Peacock in a long time. I remember it well, especially the one that had “In Color” as part of it. I appreciate images that serve to awaken up a memory, so thanks for that!

Mary Lou- Pleased to meet you, and thanks for cleaning up my workbench. It was awfully nice of you get rid of the clutter and bring in some color from the outside, and from the other image. I like the framed photo of the lighthouse up on pegboard, but could you maybe return the old hand drill? I actually have used that on occasion!

Bill- Oh great, right after Mary Lou cleans up my workbench you go and tag it! Actually, that serves as kind of a cool background, doesn’t it? I like it, for it seems much more contemporary and fly! That's right, I said fly. I'm no square. And yes, the Fisherman’s Memorial is in this area that served as the background in image #2! Nice job placing it close to home. And about a mile or so to the left is “our table.” :)
Adding the Men’s sign to the door of the mural in #3 just adds additional class to a classy establishment! This mural is on the side of not just the Up and Up Tavern, but The World Famous Up and Up Tavern! Did you know you were playing with an image that was part of something world famous?

Christell- Three great images, all showing a great variety of styles. Image #1 is a wonderful example of things I simply do not know how to do in digital imagery. I can’t make a beautiful creation if I tried. Funny perhaps, but beautiful, no. If I asked what you did to achieve this effect would I understand? Please try me! It is really nice Christell.
I think the grunge effect goes pretty good on the workbench in #2! With Bill tagging it and you dirtying it up it looks like Mary Lou is going to be real busy!
Image #3 is really nice, and I like the head in the arrow. It works well. As does Val’s humor who picked up on the straightening of graffiti! OCD with PSE; it’s an easy thing!

Tammy- Nice to meet you too. You too did a great job at straightening up The World Famous Up and Up. The bricks are a nice addition, but making the graffiti softer makes the door even more foreboding. I like danger doors! It was smart of you to post that sign by it!

Red Sky- That’s new. Interesting.....(insert awkward pause)

Eleanor- Nice to meet you too! I’m relatively new to this challenge so it’s nice to learn new names. This is a timely piece! The Speed Racer Movie is out now, right? The Mach 5 has a great angle coming out of the photo and I like the overall mood of acceleration. I’m sorry my “Men’s” sign was in the way, but I see you were able to take it down.

Ellen- Wow! What a cool collection of stuff! They all seem to fit right in, especially the giant fly. Thanks for dropping off the old 3-B beer. I’m sure it has aged well! And I’m going to read Rock n Roll Gal soon. It’s on my list after I finish the biography of Secret Sam. Some day Ellen, I’m going to get my own pipe. I think we have a similar appreciation for things, and I don’t mean that as a slam on you! It looks like that giant snail is about to drop on the person below you, who happens to be....

Kim- You hate slugs, right? Did you realized you posted right under one? Watch out for gravity, it works on slime too!
I really, really like this image. It makes me laugh and makes me stare, which is what I like to do, like Putty! The stare of the mural head goes very well on the alien body. They sure look Roswellian, so they must be Greys, right? I like the horns and scrunched mouth on the front right guy especially. Is he the leader? You do aliens well; are you one? (Hey, it's expected that we talk this way!) I was also somewhat frightened by the fact that we both did something similar with our crops. That is very scary Kim! We’re suppose to be at polar opposites, so quit messing with me! Seriously, this is really fun.

Pete- Great work on the breakout, and using the vice as an anchor to your image served you well. The brightness and clarity of the image is really apparent, and I had to look nervously to make sure there wasn’t anything in there that might get me in trouble! Looks like I put everything away, so all is good. Nice shadowing on the whole effect. You have taken to the tutorial well.

Bob- Great to see you and your art again! Thanks for taking that partial image of that thing I found and making it complete. And I am especially thankful you used the Hills Brother guy! Am I the only person who thinks he’s a hoot? Anyway Bob, I have always admired your work and your insight. Thanks for visiting the Crop Challenge and my workbench.

Still plenty of time for more additions. Hope to see some more throughout the week's end!

Steven - Thanks for the nice comments and for taking the time to do such a thoughtful job. I enjoyed reading every one and then going back to the photos to enjoy them again.

Thanks again for giving this talented bunch of people (self excluded) such great images to work with.

I downloaded his PDF files but haven't yet gotten to play with them. I like the perspective ... adds a new twist to the idea.

Steven --
Thanks for your comments. I suppose the Hills Brothers coffee drinker is supposed to suggest the arabica origin of the coffee beans -- they've used it as long as I can remember. Enjoyed your procession of caffeine fiends.

Steven, you asked how I did the one below:
http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1s0kEfZfj8hDZ2yDMoUUcEWOHtP7x_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1s0kEfZfj8hDZ2yDMoUUcEWOHtP7x)
It is really easier than it looks. I will try to give you quick & easy steps:
I am using PSE5.
1- Open photo.
2- Ctrl.J to duplicate.
3- Use rectangle or eliptical marquee or use the cookie cutter tool & pick a shape you want the crop to be. I used the wavy flag under the Banner & Award shapes.
4- On duplicate layer, draw the crop where you want it to be on photo. You can adjust the size of it by pulling on the corners. When it is how you want the size to be click ok.
5- It will be on its own layer.
6- Go to Layer styles>Bevels>Simple Emboss or try anyone of them.Apply.
7- Go to layer Styles>Drop shadow>low.Apply
8- Then Edit>Stroke Outline Selection with size & color you want.

Everytime you want another shape, Ctrl. J on background & highlight background copy layer & do your shape & follow the steps above. (3 thru 8)

For background effect, highlight the background copy.
Turn the eye off all the crop shapes to see the background copy.
Go to Filter>Brush strokes> Angles strokes.
Click on (B&W circle button) Create adjustment layer>Solid Color & pick your color. I used an off-white color.
Click on eraser tool, opacity about 35%-50%, & find a brush & erase over leaving the edges not erased. This will give you a painted look background.
I used an artistic type brush but if you don't have many extra downloaded brushes try some of the default brushes.
When done, turn the eyes back on the crop shapes.

Ask if you need any help,
Christell

Steven - Thanks so much for your detailed comments. It almost makes me think you actually looked at mine! ;) Seriously, I know it took a lot of time and consideration to comment so thoroughly on each image and we appreciate it very much. And you are correct, you and I are polar opposites on just about everything; but we both do take a strange delight in the "weird," "dark," and "twisted." And yes, I am an alien. But that's just between you and me.

Thanks again for doing the challenge this week. You were a wonderful host and I enjoyed visiting your bizarre, yet uncommonly "neat" world!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the kind comments. You gave us some great material to work with. I haven't had Elements too long(or it seems like that) and am just getting a glimmer of getting an idea and trying to get there. BTW, I cut the Men's sign out purely by accident! :)-must have been part of the crop.

Looking forward to more........
