I'm looking to buy an HD camcorder (Sanyo Xacti 1000) and have read about spotty support in video editing programs for the format the Xacti uses.
Just curious if anyone knows when PE5 will be released and what the feature set will be?
I'm running PE2 right now and interested in upgrading. Dont want to put money into PE4 now if PE5 is right around the corner.
Appreciate youre comments.
Thanks!

Sorry, no insider information here for the next Premiere Elements version, presumed version 5.
You see that type of info when the product is ready to go out the door at Adobe (probably September/October 2008).
It is my recollection that the people at Adobe and the people who are asked to be beta testers (I am not one of them) for the upgrade are sworn to secrecy. No matter what the specifications are for the next version, I would suggest that you go the tryout route before buying.
I have done some homework for the Sanyo Xacti 1000 and found:
Stills, 4 MP, presumed jpeg
Video, HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) 60 frames per second with a format of MPEG4 AVC/H.264
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264
What is "ETA" in the title of this thread?
If you have trial video from the Sanyo that you intend to buy the Sanyo, why not download the free 30 day try out for Premiere Elements 4 and see how that handles the video editing of the Sanyo video. There are also a lot of "what do you want to do" questions relating to export as well as editing. In the Premiere Elements 4 project setup you can find project presets:
NTSC HD 1080i30 (30 frames per second)
PAL HD 1080i25 (25 frames per second)
This getting beyond the scope of your original question, so I will stop here. You could try asking your question at the Premiere Elements User to User Forum at Adobe (http://www.adobe.com), but I suspect that you will meet up with speculation and wish lists rather than answers.

Just an add on....
The Sanyo HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) appears to be 1080i with that frame rate of 60 frames per second.

I was browsing around the Internet this evening and came across a topic that was just posted at the Premiere Elements User to User Forum at Adobe:
"Exporting High Def Movies"

As of this moment, there are no responses to the topic posted. But, you might want to follow the responses there as they come in.
