View Full Version : Can colors on a hue/saturation layer mask be reversed

A Hue/Saturation layer was created, the background filled with black, and overly red skin was painted white. The Red Saturation was then lowered.

Can I make a copy of this layer (yes) and reverse the colors to effect the other areas or do the areas to be adjusted need to be selected again?

BTW.... I'm confused on the colors. The background was made black using Alt-Backspace and the parts to be adjusted were painted white. This is how it looks on the Layer Mask Thumbnail.

But, if I open the Hue/Saturation dialog and click colorize the white area of the Layer Mask is black and the black area shows the background. I need sleep.

If you can suggest an answer to the reversal please do. If you can straighten my head out about the colors then you are good! :)

Hi there ...

OK so you want to duplicate the mask but in reverse:

Duplicate the mask layer
Open up the layers palette
Click on the mask itself (in your case the black square)
Then Alt Click on it ... and your selection will come up
Now do Select>Inverse
Your mask will look just the same but it will act the opposite way
...

Regarding your colourize question ... I afraid that I just can't work out what you mean  ... sorry. Could you explain it again please .. :)

If you mean colouring Black with the Hue & Saturation in Colorize mode, it won't work. You can colorize anything that is not black.
