View Full Version : Wish I could hear all the audio captions

I created a slideshow in PSE4, using photos with audio captions that I recorded using a microphone. Some of the photos are unedited; others are the 'top' image in a version set.
All of the captions can be heard in the Organizer, but in the slideshow -- the captions from photos in a 'version set' don't appear to be there (no microphone symbol) and they don't play. If I convert the 'version set' to individual photos and then create a slideshow using what was the 'top' image -- then the captions work fine. (But I don't really want to lose the 'version sets.')
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? (I posted this topic before, but maybe my post was too long -- almost 50 views but only one reply!)
Thanks in advance for any ideas. If there are no solutions in this forum, anyone have any ideas where else I can look for assistance?

Hi Sparker - I am afraid you will find very few of us use the slide show tool in Elements. I think that and the fact that few of us have PSE 4 is probably why you haven't received much response. :(
(I use Proshow Gold for my slide shows)

Thanks for your reply, Mary. So I won't take it personally if no one can help. But I'll still be a little sad.
Hmmm...Maybe I need to purchase something additional to create a simple slide show? I recently took several hundred vacation photos in a couple of national parks, and wanted to be able to just show them to others with simple audio captions. I used Elements 'Quick Fix' to adjust colors and lighting, but it sounds like this is not such a good tool for a slideshow? So much to learn......I thought Photoshop was "it." Guess not. I'll check out ProShow Gold.

Have you tried the Adobe Forums ?
www.adobeforums.com
You will have to register, but it's free. Look for Photoshop Elements, the go the the subsection for Technical issues (or something alike).

Ray,
Thanks for the suggestion. Actually I started in the adobe forums, but didn't have much luck there. Then I found this forum, which I find much better organized and easier to use. But I'll try adobe forums again -- nuthin' to lose.

There are a couple of threads on the Adobe forum discussing what is probably the same problem - but for text captions.
My suspicion is that there is a bug. I don't have all my notes here now, but basically for a version set the slide show is using the top photo (which is correct). However it appears that for a version set, the slide show is using the text caption for the original. Therefore if you type in the caption after you do the Edit, no caption on the slide show.
An alternative to breaking the version set (for text captions) is to make a copy (File > Duplicate) of the top photo of the version set and then use that -copy file as the photo for the slide show. This picks up the text caption; don't know for sure if it will also pick up the audio caption.
Of course you do then have an extra file because you made a copy, but you have preserved the version set.

Barb O,
Thanks for your answer; it 'felt' like a bug a to me and your suggested solution makes a lot of sense. I'll keep your response in case I need it, but I did go ahead and purchase Pro Show Gold and hope that will be a better tool for creating slideshows. Thanks again for your interest. This is a great forum!

"I started in the adobe forums, but didn't have much luck there"
Actually it was someone on the Adobe PS Elements forum who isolated the problem for text captions being missing when they were entered after the photo had been edited and was part of a version set. However, I think Sparkers original post on the Adobe forum was prior to this having been isolated.
Suspect that it will take a little while to acucmulate a list of v4 bugs and "odd occurances" with any potential circumventions because v4 has been available for only about 1 month.

Barb O,
I didn't mean to disparage the Adobe forum; I know you did respond to me on that one as well. I just found THIS forum easier to navigate and it seemed more active (at least to me as a brand new user). I really appreciate people who share their knowledge on any of these forums.
