I find when I take a pic that lacks "something" (lots of those) :D
I try different crops and filters and stuff to learn more about the program.
sometimes, I get lucky, and things turn out really good, sometimes just so so.
One thing about playing with the crop is, it helps you visualize better for next time..if I had of put that buildng here or that person there or had more sky and less land or visa-versa.

Not outstanding... but interesting and a bit different.
I should have straightened it first

Well here's my version

I still don't like the 'baby blue' quality to it. It was just too much for me. But then taste is personal.

I don't know what color are the stones. What do you try to do? more calm? more dramatic? looking like a nice sunrise before the storm or after?
This is my version:

Sunset and that sunset is from a different picture that I cropped out I wanted to go go along with the picture itself....You know how it casts those colors....

Sorry Thomas. It's just not working for me. It just looks "fake" and no matter what I try the colours look wrong. None of these are technical terms, it's just a feeling.

Pauline,
the way I did mine is to make many hue/saturation layers masks: one by color you wish to modify for different working areas of the pictures. The smoothness can be done in playing with the % of opacity where colors merge themselves.
I made the same but with the grey stones rather ochre stones:

BTW Way to go! Great that your pictures were chosen for magazines. You rock! :D

Thanks Michoumisalade.
I also did a copy using hue/saturation masks, but still didn't like the way it turned out. It's hard to tell whether that is beach sand (clumpy) and should be ucre, or rocks as you suggest. I think the pastel looks is what is really turning me off. Sorry Thomas!
Now I must go and visit some elderly people with my dog!! We missed last week and if I don't exit now, another hour will go by!!

 Well Thomas, I guess you now know what you have to do! This is no longer just a photograph, but it's turned into a creative challenge. Wendy great job!! The silouette really took my mind off those pastel colours!
Jodi, yours was also a great idea. I am done playing with this one though. It's time to move on to other things.
