I clicked on the link provided above by Corey. A .mov file downloaded, but when I tried to open it, got the error message, "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file."

As of Saturday May 10, 2008, about 7 pm USA East Coast Time,
1. Cannot download this "Mother's Day Special" from either:
http://www.elementsvillage.com, using the Learn More Section
or
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com, Subscriber Section, Photoshop Elements Killer Tips Logo
or
iTunes podcasts, free subscription route
In iTunes you can request the episode, but it will not open.
With the other two routes mentioned above, a .mov file downloads to the Desktop with nothing in it.
It was a nice idea, but when it does show up here, perhaps "Belated" should be included in the greeting.

I also cannot download the video. I 'still' get a file size of 0. I saw the video late last night and tried then to download then. Since I found I could not download the video I emailed Tami. This being a weekend (and Mothers Day weekend to boot!), she has not yet responded. Very understandable :)

I tried to download it, too, and wasn't able to. When I tried iTunes, it told me there was an error of some kind. Didn't give me an error number, though, so I can't even figure out what it might be. :(

This problem has been showing up in various sites. Try RIGHT clicking on the download link and select "save target as", then follow the directions in the drop down dialog box

The file now downloads with 13.4 MB instead of 0. The video opens looking like the Smudge Tool was mistakenly hit, but after the cover page and opening shot of the program window, things seem to settle in. (Found about 3 pm USA East Coast Time). Thanks to whomever corrected the problem(s).
diana616. To what other sites were you referring. I did not find any Save Target As option in your suggested route. Be that as it may, I have not had a chance to take a good look at the Photoshop Elements procedure, but can always find a way to apply the technique to other special events.

Just an after thought, I estimate the problem showed up the end of last week, followed by a weekend with closed offices. Some people sent private messages to tfry (our guardian angel troubleshooter). It may have been that, whatever you did this morning, the problem was already corrected before you tried your suggested route.

While it is savable now, the quality was very poor and the Sound was extremely low for me. The intro to the Killer Tips is loud, but Corey's part was even lower than usual. I for one would sure like to have the volume increased on Corey's videos.

The Mother's Day tutorial is now coming through via iTunes, as have several past tuts that were once missing. The Mother's Day one has good video quality, no smudging effects noticed. ;) Corey's voice is low, but nothing that turning up the volume on my speakers can't cure.
Thanks to whomever got iTunes working again with the PSE podcast!

I finally got a chance to watch the Mothers Day Special Video.
I have a PC, not a Mac which was used for this video. So, I am not sure what I am dealing with, namely a PC Mac difference or a video presentation using Photoshop Elements 5 instead of Photoshop Elements 6. I have Photoshop Elements 2, 3, and 6, no 4 and 5.
In Photoshop Elements 6 PC, you do not click on the Create tab and find "Projects" and "Artwork" up at the top above the create options. For what was done in that video, you do not see the required presets until you click on Photo Collage to open up that section of Create.

ATR: I took a quick look at the video and my PSE6 PC version seemed to look just the same as the Mac version in the video unless I'm missing something.

Thanks for checking that out. But, I also can get the image as shown in your attachment by clicking on Create/and then clicking on Photo Book or Photo Collage and then clicking on Artwork at the top right on the area that opens. Whereas, in the video Corey Barker clicks on Create and voila the Artwork tab (top right) with the Create Options buttons Photo Book, etc underneath. In that interface, he clicks on Artwork, never Photo Book or Photo Collage, to get to your attachment view.
That made me think that maybe the Mac version 6 was different or he was using maybe version 5 or 4 for the demo.

I was just now trying out Corey's tutorial with PSE6 as Corey was using. I did notice a difference with mine. When Corey would add a new photo into the project , when he clicked on the filename he would at that time get a thumbnail picture of the new photo. I do not get the thumbnail photo. All I get is the Open Dialogue Window which shows the photos I can use, but no thumbnail.
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this or is it a mac only thing?

I have Photoshop Elements 6 PC and, when I click on the framed photo in Editor monitor, that brings up that toolbar above the frame. When I click on the "Get a new photo to place in frame" icon in that toolbar, I get the Replace Photo dialog.
From the attachment that you posted, it would appear that you are in the "List" view for your "Look In: Scanned Negatives" folder. Go to the top right of that Replace Photo dialog and explore the view options. There is one there for thumbnail. Is that what you were looking for?
I am still not convinced that this is a PC/Mac issue. I suspect that this is an older video probably done with Photoshop Elements 5 Mac. I still cannot get my Replace Photo dialog to look like his when I am at the same stage as he is.
Maybe CB will enlighten us on the appearance differences noted.

ATR,
I am at work now so I cannot look at my copy of PSE6. I can tell you for sure that this video is done on a current version of 6. The Mac did not have a version 5 as Adobe skipped that version on the Mac completely at the dismay of many Mac users! Version 5 for the PC was a light grey background (which I still have installed at home) and the CREATE option looked totally different in version 5.
I was following Corey's instruction exactly as I watched the video over and over (and the same as you instruct). I could not understand why I was not getting a thumbnail the same as he was (and you are).
I do thank you for your help! Maybe this message will help you or someone else understand my problem better :)
Perhaps there is another program I have installed that is somehow interfering with Elements

Charles: I suspect what you are seeing is a Windows quirk. If that folder isn't in My Pictures on your main (eg C drive) then it will default to a list view like you see and you need to click the view icon like ATR says and change it to thumbnail view. The same thing should happen if you try and File Open the image in the PSE Editor - it's not a PSE issue - it's just the way Windows (at least XP) works. Generally the differences between Windows and Mac PSE6 seem to be pretty minimal and mainly cosmetic. As a long time Windows user I rather like being able to see what things look like on a Mac as once in a while I finish up helping people who have Macs and it threw me first time I tried (I think the lack of a right mouse button was the trickiest as it's a button I use all the time but that's not really a problem when you learn the alternatives. Actually even some Windows users throw me sometimes because of the way they have it set up - seems that no two computers are the same :(

Tony,
You are probably right about it being a windows quirk. Here is what I found out. When I FIRST open up Elements, and then select a photo to work with, at THAT time I do get the photo thumbnail. It does not have to be under My Pictures to get the thumbnail. So I went a step further. I went into Create to create a collage, went back into Edit, then I duplicated the Layer with the frame as Corey had done. When I double clicked on the photo within the frame then I selected a photo from within My Pictures but at this time I still do not get the thumbnail. I guess on my computer I will not have that option. I will have to use a picture viewer to know what filename to select..... sigh.... there are worse things than this in life! I can live with this if I have to :)

Charles,
Last question and then moving forward: I can see from your attachment of your Replace Photo dialog, that there is that View icon at the top right. Are you saying, that when you click on that, followed by choosing Thumbnails, your List is NOT replaced by Thumbnails?

THANK YOU! for being so persistant! I did not know what you were talking about in your earllier post, but in your last post it made sense! YES the thumbnail view DOES work!! I had no idea it was even there :o

Charles,
I walk a fine line between being persistent and being a pest (a pain in the neck) once I get on to something. So, I am so glad that helped.
Sorry for the earlier mis-communication.

This thread is getting long enough, but I am adding this on anyway...when you are in that Replace Photo dialog, check out the options that you get when you right click in a clear space there.

Charles,
Not exactly...when I right click the open area in the Replace Photo dialog, I get a drop down list:
View: this has the choices of Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List, Details
Arrange Icons By: this has choices of Name, Size, Type, Modified, Picture Taken on, Dimensions, Show in groups, Auto Arrange, Align to Grid
Refresh
Paste
Paste Shortcut
New: with choices which I will not list
Properties: with I will not list
It is an interesting little "Replace Photo" dialog that opens when you click the yellow "get a new photo to place in frame" icon in the toolbar above the image, BUT the irony of it all is, I just noticed, when he does it, the "Open" dialog opens not the "Replace Photo" dialog. Still have not figured out how he pulled off that tricky "open with".

Thank you again ATR, now we are on the same page. I found what you were refering to. I also do not know how Corey did that, unless that part would be one of the small differences between a MAC and a PC?
