Hi Mary Lou,
:) don't worry about doing the Challenges in any order, just jump in anywhere you fancy, and as they never close, you can also go back to any missed ones

... and we're off to a great start :D
Vesta - a pretty little girl and the border looks lovely. Yes, squiggling is not as easy as it sounds.
Tony - both have turned out beautifully, thanks for sharing the steps in both versions. Lovely flower shots too. And I like the textured look on the first one very much. The second one reminds me of a chocolate box lid, you know those old-fashioned ones which they don't do any more.
Pete - looks great, yes there are many possibilities for variations on this theme. I like the look you created on your image, are you able to share?
Val - a very pretty bird, don't think we see those here. And great border.
Cfair - looks fab, pretty geraniums. It's good to find tut's which are straightforward to follow but open up a lot of possibilities.
Clara - another pretty little one :) and lovely border.
Bill - a car, you say, so you must be home from your travels, is that where you got the disguise done? :D

and thank you to whoever voted 5 stars for this week's Be Creative :D, it wasn't me as I haven't worked out all the new stuff yet, but I did see that I don't have any friends :(:D;)

Thanks Lisa ---
When following the tutorial, I got sidetracked and played with the cookie cutter. These are not the exact steps that I used, but it is another simple way to create edge effects/shapes for presenting images. Advantages are that you can choose from a variety of shapes and it is fast-----:)
◆ Open an image and change the background layer to a regular layer (layer 0)
◆ Create a new layers below Layer 0
◆ Fill Layer 1 with white (any color can be used)
◆ Select Layer 0 and choose the Cookie Cutter tool.
◆ From the Shapes drop-down choose Crop Shapes and select a shape
◆ Drag the cursor over the image -- using the bounding box handles, you can size, rotate and position the shape.
◆ Commit
◆ Apply a drop effect to Layer 0 (optional)
Also, when selecting the shape tool and under the options, I did not feather or check the crop box. These are options that can be used to give an alternative look.

Mary Lou,
"I'm having a frustration attack!! I have listened and relistened to the tut over and over and tried to do it just as many times. First of all when I scribble the rectangle it turns into a circle and when I fill it it is darker in the middle and moves out to soft edges. Then when I try to add the picture I get either the background or the picture and I can't put them together. So...I need help please!! The tut says it is "quick, fun and easy" but at this point I'm not having fun!!"
Ok,
1. are you using the lasso tool?
I'm wondering if you are using the elliptical marquee tool from what you describe.
After going all the way round your border you should get the marching ants showing you the outline you have made.
2. Edit> Fill then choose black from the dialogue box.
Getting soft edges would suggest you have a feathering on the outline, so if you are using the wrong tool and have a feather that could be the problem.
The edit fill black command should be a solid colour.
3. Have both images open and drag the border layer into the other.
Maybe someone with PSE6 can give you a tip on that, as it might be a little different to PSE5.
I'm using PSE5, had both images visible, the border one was active in my layers palette, so I dragged the appropriate layer from that into the image.

I have 6.0
Mary Lou,
I think you'll find that you have a number in the feather box. That will cause the problems you're having. Make sure you enter zero in the feather box and I'm sure you'll be able to do it from there!
To get both your images showing, choose Images>Tile (or Cascade) then using your move tool drag the frame you've made onto the picture.

Thank You Lisa and Bayla. Your instructions were right on the mark!! It still took me forever but I did it. I'm not sure why something so easy was so difficult...oh well!! Thanks again for your expertise.

Great images :)
Fish - welcome to the Village and to Be Creative, a lovely image and very nicely bordered.
Kim - that is such a fun image, that is some serious dancing going on, cute, and lovely in the sepia, red edging is perfect.
Tammy - lovely intricate detail on the edging, well squiggled!
Mary Lou - I'm glad you got it sussed out, looks great.
Marie - I really like how the more jagged edge compliments the night time scene.
Es - beautiful! It has a lovely bold, textured look.
Judy - both look great, I think the possibilities with this one are endless.
Bayla - beautiful roses, and very nice work on the background, really sets the roses off.
Thanks everyone, something new tomorrow :)
