View Full Version : A question for challenge junkies

It seems like quite a few of us have been looking around for a replacement of sorts for our "Grant's Challenge" fix. I've seen a few of us doing the weekly NAPP battles, some play the weekly "Friday Challenge" that Steve Caplan so skillfully moderates and others participate in the "imagine" series at the Creative Elements Community.
Is there interest in reviving a Grant style challenge here at the Village? I could imagine a host selecting images submitted by others (like Grant did) and posting them in a new thread here on a weekly basis. No web space would be needed as we could use Pixentral as we do for other postings, and simply post to the week's thread.
(For those not familiar with Grant's challenge, a photo is posted and the challenge is to use your photo editing skills and imagination to modify the image in whatever way strikes your fancy.)
Does that make sense? Is there a need? Does it sound like fun? Would you play? Would someone like to serve as host? (I'd be glad too, but I'd be glad to see someone else do it as well .... it doesn't matter to me.)
What are the thoughts of the group?

I would definitely be interested Bill, and would play, but I kind of wonder what the participation would be. There seems to be a lot of challenges happening, and in the final months of Grants I noticed a drop off in the number of submissions. Quite a few of Grant's Challenge participants came from outside of Elements Village too (I miss Alex and his cloning ability!)
I really liked Grant's first rule of there being no rules, so a challenge like that appeals to me. I too would like to hear thoughts of others.

Bill - I think it's a terrific idea! I know the Grant's Challenge has been missed by a lot of us. I would definitely participate! You have my vote for resurrecting the challenge, as well as being the moderator, if taking on one more task wouldn't be too much for you!

I've missed Grant's challenge too and while enjoying others (Steve Caplin's How to Cheat especially but they are a different sort of challenge in a way)
One thing about Grant's was having the pleasure seeing all the different takes in a more seamless way than the challenges here. I'd be happy to run something.

Great idea Bill!
I joined late to Grant's Challenge and then had not had time for the last few, but in principle and other factor's permitting, I'd love to join the fun.
As far as people who used to participate in Grant's Challenge but aren't members, maybe it would be possible to contact them (via Grant?) and let them know it will be rekindled here. If they are missing it too, they might like to pop in for that.
I'm sure too that if you start it here, you will get new people join in.
Ellen and Bill - do you have a link to Steve Caplin's Friday Challenge, I haven't seen that one, thanks :)

I never participated in Grant's challenges, because by the time I had figured out what was going on, I figured I was too late.
Not sure if I would have the time to always participate...but I sure enjoy seeing what takes place in the various challenges.

It's way beyond my level of creativity, but I bet that having it hosted here on the forum would generate a lot of interest among members who didn't participate before.

Kind of you to say, Rita! I'm not skilled at manipulation like the rest of you guys so I wouldn't have much to offer this kind of challenge. I love to see everyone elses' creativity, so it would be super to have the challenge here...

Since Grant's challenge started at the Adobe forum I'll go and post a link to this thread there.

Great idea Ellen.
It seems like there's some interest. What would you think if we went ahead and tried it for a set time (10 weeks??) as a trial baloon.
During that time we could get the word out as well as we can and see how many folks join in. If we've got something going we can carry on, if not there's no harm done and hopefully we've had some fun for a while.
It sounds like Ellen or I could get it going.
Bill
ps - Julie, I sure hope you'll join in. Just try one and you'll be hooked.:D

I certainly would give it a whirl. I am enjoying "playing" with PSE 6.0. Now if I only knew what I was doing that would help!!

Bill and Ellen,
I think it's a great idea. I was only a sporadic participant but I'd love to see it started up again here if only to be amazed at everyone else's work.
What are you going to call it? 'Grant's Challenge Revisited'? Return of Grant's Challenge'?

Well what should we call it? "Spawn of Grant's Challenge" doesn't sound right. I'll post photos each week for a while and see how it goes. I'll get a Gmail address to send your photos to for being the one we mess with.
So think of a name and I'll get on it.

Quimper's Challenge sounds unique, unless Mr. Quimper objects. I don't think it necessarily needs to have Grant's name in the title, with all due respect. The torch has been passed on for someone else to handle, so even Ellen's Challenge would be fine. Chloe's?

Z Challenge is it then. I got a Gmail box to send your fabulous photos for future challenges. I'll start with something and find the lovely quote that Grant always had.
Edit ; oops! Bill's right it's pht.challenge@gmail.com
