Ok- Sorry to be so "elemental", but why is there no simple way (I can't see any so far, that is) to just frame or mat a picture in PSE 4.0?
I really wish (and maybe I need to look around here) I could have someone come to my home and give me a few lessons...
I have used MS Digital Image Suite 9.0 and I suppose I am very used to it...there was a very easy way to frame a picture. I even learned how to do a blurred frame.
Now that I have new software, I feel like I am starting all over again (I know, I am)
Anyway, I know I need to get the book out and study, but can someone get me started? I also would like to create a layer (to save for most of my pix) with my initials on it.
OK--I think my biggest problem is I need to really learn about LAYERS. I am really good at --show me once -- and I can do it again by myself.
I'm rambling now, sorry.

Hi Kristie,

Layers can be difficult to get the hang of but just click on "Learning Centre" ... at the top of this page and you will find a couple of tutorials ... they should help you :)

Now there are many ways to frame an image ... one is:

Set your background colour to the colour you want your frame to be
Image>Resize>Canvas Size ... when the pop up box appears tick relative and put in the size you want the frame to be (try a low number say 2 ... but it all depends on the size of your image so you will need to experiment)

If you want more complex border then just let us know what sort and one of us will help ... :)

Sorry I forgot to say that if you want to save a layer with your initials on it then all you do is select a font and colour then simply type ... now save the file as a psd (Do file Save As ... and check that it is saving as a psd) .. and there you go.

However, why not make a signature brush? ... its easy and fun.

Here is a link to some mini tuts I have done .. there are a couple on making brushes in there:

Do let us know how you go on :)

Hi Kristie,
In the "styles and effects" pallette (on the right hand side of the edit screen), select "effects" and it will show some quick frames to use besides a few other effects.

Thanks Wendy. I will sit down and go through the tuts you showed me.

Also, thanks Jo--I knew there had to be a one or two- click way, I just have to learn the right "lingo".
