When I save to a CDR from elements and remove the disc then put it back i to add more pictures it will not let me add anymore?
When I put the pictures on from explorer I can go back and save to the disc as many times as I need. Is there something I can change or do in elements that will allow me to go back and add to a disc? It is like it finalizes the disc or something?
HELP Please

:( Unfortunately there are no incremental backups from within Elements - which is why many of us do our backups from within Windows.

I quit using Elements back up. It's useless. I would have about 50 cd's by now instead of 6. I also use windows for my backing up my photos

You can do incremental back ups in Elements... Select File > Back Up and then click next. In STep 2 you get the option to choose either a Full Backup or Incremental Backup...

The problem with this as I remember, is that it wants a NEW cd each time. You can't use a cd you already used.

RP33 may be right - the Sonic burning software used by Elements may be closing the cd, in that case you would need a new one each time. HAve you tried using a cd-rw?

When you (Mary, Pauline) say you do your backups from windows, would you please walk me throught that?
I have used MS digital image suite for at least three years and it was always so easy to copy to a cd, but with PSA 4.0, I seem to be having a problem with that, so much so that I moved my pix (a wedding I did) into MS dig. just so I could burn them to disk. I thought surely PSE would be easy to pick the photos I want to burn to disk, but not so.
Can I get a step by step, please?
Do you just go into my docs> my pictures and copy??
thanks!

Hi Kristy. When it comes to back ups you're right, I don't use elements any more. I don't like the way it works, and I'm not confident in it's abilities. Also you have to use a new cd each time and considering half the time, I might take 20 pictures and then burn to cd, it would just be an incredible waste.
I go to my documents>my pictures>burn to cd. That's all there is to it. Next time I put more pictures on the computer, I put the cd back in and continue. I separate mine, by using one for every couple of months. I have another one that I put challenge entries on, another one for creations, etc. If there is a special occasion sometimes that one will be on it's own cd. So far it's working for me. ;)

Hi Kristi - Pauline explained it very well. The only thing I might add is - open your folder under My Documents called My Pictures and you will be able to see all your pictures that the Organizer is keeping track of. Your pictures are there in My Pictures and PSE just keeps thumbnails to show what it is keeping track of. Organizer is really just a tracker and windows is your repository.
When you are in My Pictures you will see the options on the left side to burn to cd. I just choose the folders I want to back up and then burn.
Let us know if how you go on.:)

One other thing to remember. DO NOT RENAME FILES OR MOVE FILES while you are there. If you don't do them in the organizer, it won't be able to find them and you will end up with broken links and have to reconnect them.

I found this out a few weeks ago...I only ended up with about 10 or so broken files (and stumbled upon how to fix them), but it was a pain.
I have heard that CD-R is the way to go. I had been using RW, but hated to waste a CD if something wasn't right. Can I add to a CD-R later, if I have more pix to add?
I did buy a portable external hard drive, but haven't even opened it yet. That's is on todays' short list of "things to do".
Thanks again!

One more thing...if I save using Windows, will PSE still have the reminder to back up my photos keep popping up? I just keep clicking "remind me next time".

I think you can turn that feature off. If I don't back up my photos as soon as I download them (because I need to work on them, etc.) I make myself a note of which ones I need to back up so I don't forget. I try to remember whenever I make a new creation to back it up as soon as I save it. :D
