I am a novice and am trying various things like creating a portrait or an elegant bacground. But every time i get to the "once the object is selected ....drag it over your spotlight document" everything goes crazy.
Where is this dragging done as i cannot sem to grasp it.
Thanks

Hi there ...

Oh this does confuse a lot of people ... try it this way instead:

Lets say you have two images one called A and one called B
and you want to move image A into image B

OK now:

Open image A and do Select>All
then Edit>Copy

Open image B and do
Edit>Paste

You will now have two layers in your image ... and you will have moved one into the other.

It you only want to move part of image A into image B then do:

Open image A and make your selection
then do Edit>Copy

Open image B and do
Edit>Paste

Do let us know how you go on :)

Thanks Wendy - this worked - to a degree. . Basically what i am trying to do is take the head shot off a full length picture of my son and put on a nice portrait background, i have just tried what you have said and it worked but his head taken over the the whole shot! - so i cannot see any background
Can you pleae advise what i am doing wrong!?

Hi there ...

You are not doing anything wrong ... its just that one image is bigger than the other.

Get hold of the move tool and click omn the head
A bounding box will appear around it
Click in the corner of the box and your cursor will change shape
now hold down the Shift key, click with the mouse ... hold the button down and drag inwards ...
the head will get smaller as you drag ...

Do let us know how you go on :)

Wendy this worked a treat !!.
Sorry to be pain but when selecting the part of an image and for example drawing around the head shot with the lasso tool , how do you make sure you don't get any thing else. For example if the image is a boy stood against a wall with a red background how do i select just his head and nothing else?
Thanks

Hi there ...

Well there isn't an easy way to do that ... its just zoom in close then take it slow and easy.

I usually use the lasso tool ... don't forget that if you select a little too much or not enought then you can use "Add to Selection" and "Subtract from Selection" to correct it.

(they are the little boxes that appear at the top of the screen when you are using one of the selection tools )
