I sent an email to Scrapbook Factory asking how to convert some of the embellishments/letters,etc so that they can be used in PSEW6.

Their response was that the items are proprietary and can't be used in any other program.

Drat.

I think they meant their graphics are in a proprietary format - a format not recognized by other software

-- to use a Scrapbook Factory or Greeting Card Factory clip art in Elements -

While in Scrapbook Factory - open a project - any project that starts with a blank page -

place clip art from the scrapbook factory files on the project

Increase the clip art size by dragging the corner - make sure it's substantial in size - at least 4 to 6 inches - so there won't be any loss of clarity after saving. Then use

file> export as image

a screen will come up so you can choose the size and resolution -
(realize the size of what you save will include the original blank layer - so if you start with a 8.5x11 and save a 4 inch graphic - the overall size of the saved file will be 8.5x11.

then hit save and chose where you want it to be saved.

Your graphic will have a white background because it was saved as a jpg -

Open this graphic in Elements - use the magic wand to select the white background and

edit> cut

to delete the white background

Save as png

Remember to change your layer from "background" to "layer" before attempting to delete the white background - so when you cut, it will be transparent around the graphic.

This png can then be used as you use any pngs

Thanks. I was trying to see if I could find a way to use them without having to cut out the white background. Especially when using letters or intricate swirly things - it would have been much easier not to have to lasso or wand...

Oh well.

Yep - this is extremely cumbersome - and I don't do it often - too much work. LOL

But, in a pinch - when I cannot find another source for a graphic - I'm glad I found a way - even an annoying way - of being able to use it as a png.

Right! I'll just have to do it the annoying way until I find a better workaround! Or a piece of software with tons of embellishments already in .png format!
