Tom tagged me for this week so I'll give it a try! I don't have a RAW image that I want to use so I'm posting a hi-res jpeg. Hope that's ok? I chose an image with an interesting sky because Matt K. has created some really nice presets for skies for two weeks in a row.

The purpose of this weekly challenge is to encourage creative experimentation with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. All Lightroom users are welcome to join in and for those who don't have Lightroom but wish to play, here (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/?promoid=BONSV) is the link to the 30-day trial version.

Please make any adjustments you choose to the following image and post your results in this thread. Share how you processed the image and provide information on any develop presets used. All modifications on the image should be made in Lightroom.

You can get the full size jpeg here (http://JScoggins.smugmug.com/gallery/4818284_zJ52h/1/#286537749_PYzXh-A-LB) in my Smugmug gallery.

Have fun!

Here's my take on it. I started with Matt's "Surreal Edgy Effect 3-Dark" preset. Then I increased the exposure to bring back more detail in the cloud and pulled back a bit on the vignetting and cropped it.

Thanks, Julie! It really was a surreal-looking storm as it approached and Matt's preset brought out the feeling of that moment. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

This is just such a pretty image. I adjusted the white balance, boosted the clarity, increased vibrance and saturation. A bit of an s curve in tones, and increased the yellow luminance. Also cropped and added a light vignette. Where is this taken, Janet?

Bit of a Northern Lights look...

Really though Janet I think you nailed it on the first try - thanks for posting such a pretty photo!

I thought I'd try a B&W preset, the WOW-d_BnW_2, to emphasize the dark sky.

Wow! We've had a rough afternoon...been out of power since 5pm when storms and tornadoes came thru here. Hope my stormy image wasn't an omen!

Julie, I love your edit! It really brings out the natural beauty and majesty of the storm front as it passed over us. The photo was taken from Gloucester Point, Va., which is directly across the York River from historic Yorktown, Va. and about 1/2 mile from my house.

Nicole, I really like the northern lights effect! I've actually seen the sky here take on that same green color when a storm was approaching..very intimidating!

Tom, great B&W version! I almost went with a B&W, too...that sky really lends itself well to the drama of a nice B&W. It really brings out the detail of the grass in the foreground, too.

Gary, I hope you do find time to join in this week...I'd love to see what you do with this photo!

Janet, I spent some time a number of years back tooling around that area, including some on the river. Experienced some seriously wicked storms too. Your photo must have hit a chord with me ...

I just seemed to love the dark green grass in the fore ground so I tried from there.

Thanks Julie

Not quite sure..and of course, I played more after I posted.
I know I did a bit of messing with the tone curves and likely the basic exposure settings.
Ill check later and see if I can call up the settings from the saved jpeg.:)

That's okay, Gary. You don't have to share your secrets if you don't want! :D:D:D

They are only secrets because my memory is so bad.

Pretty soon I'll be able to hide my own Easter Eggs, and still have a fun hunt.:D

Don't feel bad. I've locked myself out of the house 5 times this school year and had to go drag one or the other of my kids out of class to borrow their keys. Getting a tad embarrassing...

Julie

My sister did that this past winter with a few preschoolers in tow, as she went to the school to pick up the other kids. I think she had to break in and get one of the bigger kids to go unlock the door.
