Hello, I'm new to this forum and new to Photoshop Elements. I'm learning a lot from this forum and decided it was about time for me to jump in.... My question is this: Does Elements Clone Tool work differently than it did in Elements in 2.0 When I "pick up" the part of the photo I want to clone everything is fine, but when I try to lay it down where I want it, two symbols appear (one being a +) and it doesn't lay the color down. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you.

Welcome to the Forums !

Make sure the blend mode is set at normal (top options bar).

The major gatcha I ran into is if you have a graphics tablet - Wacom or other and you leave that mouse on the tablet - several of the tools do not work. :)

Let us know how you get on!

Debbie ...

I think that the plus sign you are seeing it just how Elements now shows you the place you are cloning from ...

As far as the cloning not showing another thing to check the opacity (at the top of the screen) and are you working on an image with more than one layer? ... in which case is "Use all layers" ticked.

Do let us know if one of the ideas sorts it out :)

Thanks everyone. I know the mode was not set to Normal as I was following "Removing Hot Spots" (pg. 240-243) found in my book,The Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby. The two symbols moved across my screen in tandem and I wasn't sure which one was to cloning device. I really couldn't see any difference. Maybe my brush was too small....Is my book incorrect? Debbie

You seem to be doing it right. I don't have 4 though. Either make your brush bigger...make the opacity higher..or change the mode to normal ..just to see if it is working. Then undo and go back. Removing hotspots is supposed to be subtle, so you may not notice much on a single pass.

Thanks Gary, I'll change the mode and play around with it. You're right, I'm probably expecting to see more of a change than I should. Debbie
