Does anyone know how to create a decent camera shake / vibration effect using Premiere elements?

Hit the camera with the box as you take the photo?

Rick,

You could try keyframing the Motion Properties, BUT......

Do you have Premiere Elements 4? If so, try the video effect "Earthquake" with setting of 100. You could also throw in the video effect "Active Camera" and adjust its settings.

As for Cloud's suggestion, you could approach it from the other side and shoot shaking video (without hitting the camera with a box). But, I suspect using Premiere Elements and video effects would be more artistically rewarding.

Thanks for the earthquake suggestion. I use PE3, I wasn't aware that 4.0 had been released. I'll have to have a look into it.

Would you say there are significant advantages to having version 4 over version 3?

hmm.. I wonder if the additional video effects (like earthquake) on ver 4 would work as plug-ins on ver 3?

I have Premiere Elements 2 and 4. As a quick experiment, I copied the Earthquake from Premiere Elements 4 and inserted it into the Effects Plug Ins of Premiere Elements 2. After restarting the computer, I found Earthquake now included with the Video Effects of Premiere Elements 2.

HOWEVER, I could not get the effect to work properly once it was inserted into the video on the Timeline. I did not continue troubleshooting the issue at this time.

If you wish to go the Plug Ins route, check out this link to see if it leads anywhere:

After reading the Welcome To Premiere Elements 4 article mentioned in my other post, are you ready for Premiere Elements 4 yet?

Thanks for the useful information and review ATR, and for trying the plugin experiment.
I decided to download the trial version of PE4 and have been playing with it for a couple of hours or so.

Unfortunately my first impressions are not that favourable. In fact, I'm downright disapointed! I'm probably a bit biased in my opinions, because I love the layout of PE3 and an can work really efficiently with it. In fact as far as editing goes, I think PE3 is the best thing since sliced bread in terms of layout and usability.

I was expecting PE.4 to be like PE.3 but better, with all the little flaws worked out allowing the overall experience to be even more efficient and pleasurable. Unfortunately, it seems like they have taken a step backwards!

What I found straight away, was there was an awful lot of mouse clicking, and hunting around, just to perform simple basic tasks.
The properties window, with its quick easy access in PE3 is perfect for speedy, efficient editing - why they had to remove it in this version is beyond my comprehension. The same could be said for the media window.

Also, the paired-up video and audio tracks are fine for editing home movies and holiday snaps, but as an amateur film maker who likes to add multiple layers of sound effects and visuals, it makes the task a lot more awkward and fiddly.

I did read somewhere that the chromakey facility has been improved, and with the "remove matte" feature, a notable improvement has been made to my bluescreen footage. Also the earthquake effect is really good and exactly what I need for this current movie project, but I have since sussed out how to get a similar effect by keyframing motion, (takes a while but works well).

So the question is, would I switch to PE4 from PE3?
I think a resounding NO.
In my opinion PE3 has a perfect, user-freindly layout, PE4 seems unnecessarily fiddly, A lot slower, with some 'hanging' involved, and quite frankly, frustrating to use!

Apart from a few additional features on PE4, I dont understand how they can call it an improvement. How can you take something that works really well, and turn it into something that doesn't work so well - and call it an improvement?

The additional features on PE4 are not enough to make me switch. If I was going to change, I would wait until they bring out a version with the same user-friendly interface as PE3.

Thanks again for the help
