I downloaded a text path template from atomic cupcake and a thing that makes your text look like it has plastic around it. How do I put these into my photoshop program??

If I'm not mistaken and I understand the kind of product you have, the text path template can be opened simply like any project. Then you can duplicate any of the layers from the text path template on to one of your own projects. Not sure if that helps make it clear for you any.

Regarding the characters though, I'm not familiar enough with it so have no idea.

No instructions came with it?

Just looking at these instructions, it sounds like you open the PSD file and go:

Use your text tool and click on the text. You can then replace the text with your own text or change the font and the text size.
