I sure would like to know if I can make calendars in Photoshop Elements 6.0. Obviously I have plenty of graphics/photos but lack the months/years/days graphics. Even better would be Vector graphics of these so they could be scaled. Anyone have any ideas?

I process my photos in elements but use calendar creator plus to print the calendar pages.

When I use photos on the same page as the calendar grid I import my photos into calendar creator.

When I am using a full page for photo and a full page for the calendar grid I simply print the calendar pages from calendar creator and on the backs of those pages print the photos using pagemaker (I usually import psds into pagemaker since it is easier to position the image on the page)

There are a lot of calendar maker programs out there that allow you to input events, etc.

Thanks Karen for the tip. I've owned & used Calendar Creator in the past but wish to find scaleable overlay graphics and merge them with my photos. I believe I've found a source using Google that I'm going to try. :)

I finally broke down and got the upgrade to CC+, and have had nothing but trouble with it. In the first place, it practically took a Presidential Pardon to get the old version off my computer...had to go deep into the guts of my cpu to accomplish it, after dozens of attempts at communications with Broderband. The problem was, it wouldn't install the upgrade while the older version was still in the cpu, but trying to get the old one off was unlike anything I have ever had to cope with before. Secondly, the upgrade (version 12, I think), seems to be less user-friendly than older versions, and less flexible as to what it can create. I've got it running, but I hate it. Does anyone have a suggestion for better calendar-creating program?

Sharron,

I agree. I am currently using v10. I had an old version on my Mac years ago that i liked so much better. v10 one is much less straightforward, seems to want to be a day planner, and comes with all sorts of themed photos that I am not interested in. In the old version I could define event lists and import or delete them into the different calendars. v10 does not do this nearly as easily as the old version.

I do think it might be capable of what Bob wants to do, but I am not sure.

I know some of the calendar print kits come with links to calendar software. I have not tried any of those.

I too would be interested in any recomendations.

Bob, let us know how the program you found works out.

Hi there! I'm sure this won't help you, but here is half of the calendar I made for my family this Christmas. I made the entire thing on my own, didn't use any programs, actually made my own grids and filled in the dates, created backgrounds, etc. Took awhile, but my family really appreciated it. I wanted to figure out a fun way to display some of the thousand pictures we took at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. I can see how it is the most photographed event in the world! Good luck with the calendar!

Hi Bob,

Here is how I do calendars. Be forewarned that I employ programs other than PSE. The end result is a calendar printed on 11" by 17" paper in portrait orientation with plenty of white space to write in appointments and events.

1/ Start with a nice image to be sized 5" by 7.5" in portrait orientation. This will be placed in the upper left hand corner of the final print. Do all this work in PSE and save the image with the name composed of the year and month. This month would be named: 2008-04.jpg.

2/ I get my calendar from Microsoft Publisher. Using Publisher create a calendar for the month you want using the "Understated" template. Delete the month textbox as we will be printing our own month title. I have PDF Creator for "printing" the output to a .pdf file. So, print the calendar to a .pdf file and exit Publisher.

3/ Edit the .pdf file in PSE. Make sure that you load the .pdf file in 300 Pixels Per Inch (PPI). Resize the calendar to 10" by 8" making sure that Constrain Proportions is unchecked. If you want to add notes to any day use the text tool in Arial 10 point type. I like to add holidays and family birthdays. I then save this in a file called cal.jpg.

4/ Now to assemble the whole thing in Microsoft Publisher. You could probably use PSE, but I like Publisher for its ease of layout alterations. I usually copy last month's calendar and replace the various elements, but to start out you will need to establish a blank file. Size this workspace to be 11" by 17" at 300 PPI resolution. Place the image in the upper left hand corner. Using a pretty font, I use Lucida Calligraphic bold 36 point, add the month name and maybe a caption. Place this to the right of the picture. Next, paste in the calendar and position it along the bottom.

Here is how it looks:

Good luck,

Bob

Hey Bob,

I really like the calendar. I have all those programs. I thought of an idea for a calendar fo my mom. She is 78. I have quite a lot of pictures of her family both recent and years past. Some of them have passed on. I thought it would be neat to create a calendar with those pictures. She keeps a calendar to write all the doctor appts. on for her and my Dad. I am so excited to start the project. But it will probably have a few days at least. I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right (dominant) hand today. I am typing with my left hand only right now. It takes a while. Thanks for putting the instructions up and thanks to the person for starting this thread.

I had the same surgery and am doing very well years later. I went back to work using a word processor within a week of the surgery. Little slow.....but I got there.

Hi C-Fair,

Sorry to read that your right hand is a tad out of sorts and I hope you mend quickly. If you need more details on my calendar procedure, I can gladly add a few notes. I did not expect anyone in this forum to have Publisher or a way to create .pdf files, so my "recipe" was a tad brief. Once you get one to your liking (or if you have trouble) please post it back to this topic.

Cheers,

Bob

In the scrapbooking section somone posted a link to Epson's site where they have free calendar templates. You might want to check it out: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/PrintLab/pl_categoryHome.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&catOID=-12483

Here is my first try at a calendar using Bob's instructions. It's a picture of my Mom and her sister. Ages 78 and 75 now. I don't know how old they were there. It's one of my favorite pictures. Thanks Bob.

Hi Bob,

I also use a combination of Elements and Publisher for a calendar. But I split each month between two 8.5 x 11 (landscape) pages with the top page being pictures and the bottom page the month. Then after I print the pages I take them to Staples for spiral binding. I really like your idea of putting everything on one 11 x 17 page, but doesn't that make it really expensive to print? Do you you have a printer at home that will handle that size of paper or do you have a favorite place you farm the printing out to?

Thanks,

Very Nice C-Fair,

I am surprised how many people here have Publisher. Nice job.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Florida Gal,

Yes indeed the paper is expensive. I use Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss paper. I have a fairly old now Canon S9000 printer. Still, it is a lot cheaper then the old chemical based color photograph.

Cheers,

Bob

Because I like to make greeting cards on my computer, I had previously purchased Hallmark Card Studio 2008 Deluxe. I used that to make the grid portion of the calendar, and PSE5 to make the photo portion. I used a purchased calendar kit (8 1/2" x 11"), putting the photo on one page and the grid on the page facing it. I made a collage-type calendar for my dad of the trip we took last September-October. He LOVES it!

I used the Hallmark program to put in the holidays, his birthday, Father's Day, my birthday, etc.
