Can someone help. I started a DVD project and saved it; however when I went to work on it - it won't open and locks up the system. Since I'm creating the show in segments it's not large but it's locking up. When it opens, only about 3 pictures open up and then everything else is gray. As soon as I try to do something the show locks up.

I don't want to have to recreate so do you have any suggestions on what to do and how this may have happened?

Kathy

How did you save this segment? As a project (.prel file) saved to ????? (where) or did you export to DV AVI (File Menu/Export/Movie) and save to a location on the internal hard drive, such as My Videos? Is an external hard drive with FAT32 format involved in this in any way?

Next what is the content of this segment?

If applicable, start a new project with several (not too too many) images (less than what you already have per segment), save. and see if the project opens OK?

I will watch for your answers and see if I can figure out what is happening there.

ATR, I think it's where the file is being saved. For some reason it's going to a folder I created for the .avi files rather than the PE 3.0 folder that they use to go to. I tried copying it to the PE3.0 folder but the show still won't open correctly. I then created another show and saved it and it opened OK but this too is going to the DVD avi folder I created - how can I stop them from going there?

I think I just answered my question....I created another show and did a "save as" and saw the default folder as the DVD .avi folder I created so using the drop down menu I sent it to the 3.0 folder. I just closed the show and reopened it, making sure it was coming from the 3.0 folder and it opened just fine.

Any suggestions on getting the original show to 3.0 so that I don't have to do it over again. (I tried copying and pasting the show but still had the problem.)

You open the program and are at the level of the Welcome Screen.

You click New Project.

In the New Project dialog that opens, there is a Save In location. Go to "Browse" on the right of the Save In line, browse to the save location that you want for the project, and set that as your Save In location.

You might also want to check out to where your scratch files are going. Look for that under Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Discs. I would leave that alone for the moment.

If need be, later we can talk about moving the save location of previous projects to a more appropriate location for you.

I am not sure about your save situation at this point, but the following Adobe TechNote on Damaged Projects may help....especially see Part 6 "Open an archived copy of the project file".

The first link is for version 3, the second for version 4. You wrote 3.0 folder, but somehow I thought I remembered you using 4. Probably my recollection, but just in case.

I am not completely certain whether the save location was the issue, so make sure you use AutoSave during the project and maybe a Save As in closing the project.
