Last file always opens

New to PSE6. Why is it the last set of pictures worked on always opens in the organizer at start up?:confused:

Because you have the display set to view by Import Batch. The last photo(s) you worked on are the last "import" batch(es), or in other words the last images imported into the Organizer from your file folders, so they appear at the top. Actually this is quite handy. You can change to Thumbnails view (which gives you newest first or oldest first options) or Folders view (by computer folder). These are selected with the Display button in the top right. You cannot change out of Import Batch mode by selecting drop-down arrow on the box above the images and to the right which says in it "Image Batch" - that box only becomes active in Thumbnails view. You'll have to ask Adobe why they would do it that way.
