I was able to use PSE 6 editor until yesterday. Now it shuts me down. This is my error.
file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Sue/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpgError signature
AppName: photoshopelementseditor.exe AppVer: 6.0.0.0 ModName msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.1433 Offset:00008aa0
Does that mean anything? Why would it all of a sudden start closing on me before I am even able to do anything?

Sue,
I'm not sure but I think that msvcr80.dll has been modified.
I checked this dll in my Windows System 32 and your properties are different from mine.
I don't know how you can find out if this is what has happened or how you can check it.
Maybe one of the techy members will come up with an answer.

Thanks for your response. What I did after I posted was this. I did a search for that .dll file. I found it on the computer, I forget some of the places. It was also on PSE 5, but it did not show as being on PSE 6. I think something might be corrupted and maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall PSE 6.
I got a new wireless laser mouse last week (I think) and I bought a new KVM switch that works with USB connections. I thought I had a bad KVM and took it back and exchanged it. The next one did not work either. I have noticed some blinking since I tried to use the new KVM. I am back to the old KVM. I just have two separate mouse (mice) instead of one.
Something happened to my personal computer the other day. I have a job where I work from home on a company computer. I switch back and forth between my work computer and my personal computer. Once when I switched over to the personal computer, I had a blue screen saying something about dumping physical memory. All I could think of was the blue screen of death I used to get on another Windows platform. I turned the computer off. I thought the thing was toast, but it came back up, and I have been using it ever since. This is the only problem I have encountered other than a little blinking now and then.
I am not sure I want to reformat the hard drive, but that may be my best option.

That's not the blue screen of death but it's close to it. Sounds like a possible memory error. If you want more technical help try posting here:

Don't throw everything out and reformat until you have diagnosed the problem - could be a waste of time, possible data loss if not careful, and you end up still having the same problem.

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\moxplugins\Microsoft.VC80.CRT
These are the two files in PSE 5 that have this msvcr80.dll.
In my search, I do not find anything for PSE 6.
This .dll is also found in C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.V80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1 e18e3b_8.0.50727.1433_x-ww_5cf844d2
and three others that are very similar to that. They change after the 50727.

Sue,
check if you have a system restore point before the install of the mouse.
If you have run that, it may cure the problem.

That's a good idea. Wished I would have thought of that. That just restores the settings and does not delete anything that I have added to my computer, such as current PSE 6 projects; is that correct?
This mouse did not require any software. I disconnected it this morning and put in a regular USB mouse and PSE6 still did not work. I got the same error.
Thanks for your response.

Sue,
doing a restore does not delete any files etc but puts your system to what it was on that date. I had a similar problem with a dll and restore fixed it.

Thanks. I will do that after I get off work. I have to try to remember exactly how far back I need to go to restore.

I cannot restore to the date I need to. I have picked several dates. It goes through the restore process but then says it did not make any changes and it was unable to use that date or something like that. I think there has been some service update that has happened since the date I need to restore. Would that be what is blocking me or is this just a problem related to that .dll file?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Sue,
if you think the dll file is missing or corrupted before you
do anything drastic, try d/loading a clean version from
www.dlldump.com (http://www.dlldump.com)

I uninstalled PSE 6 and restalled and that did not help. I decided to try to restore to an even older date. I had also started getting some conapp.dll (or something like that) error. I was finally able to restore to that date. I had to reinstall PSE 6 again because it said there were missing parts. I rebooted after that. Now a program I installed just last week is not on my computer. I think I am going to have to reformat this hard drive.

Thanks for your help and good wishes. I hate having to do it, but I know it needs to be done every now and then. It has probably been at least two years since the last time. I am not going to be able to do it till at least Wednesday. I have been backing stuff up on Mozy, so I guess this will be my real test to see what will happen with that and if it is worth the money.
There are some programs I am worried about not being able to recover. I can't find a disk for them. I have done a search through explore for all the files related to a particular program and I am thinking about backing all that up on a DVD. Is it possible to do that and have a valid program again? I can't find my Nero disk that came with my DVD writer.
