View Full Version : Extra Text Layer

This is something that has bugged me for some time and I can't figure out why it happens.

After typing my text, I usually go back to change the size, color, or font. To do this, I highlight the text to make the desired change. My first attempt (and quite often, more than once) to highlight the text is not successful and it will add an additional "text layer" above my original text layer! I've had to click off that extra layer several times before I finally manage to highlight the text without the extra layer popping up.

What am I doing wrong?? Appreciate any thoughts and/or solutions!

thanks.

Hi Diane

Try double clicking on the thumbnail in the text layer itself. That will do the trick for you.

Hope this helps.

Hi Diane ...

What is happening is that you are clicking down with the text tool in a slightly different place so Elements things that you want a new text layer :)

David & Wendy,

Thanks for your help on this. I will try both of your suggestions to see which works best for me so I will no longer have this problem!!:D

This is my favorite trick too! For the opposite but equally frustrating situation, when you want to place a second text box very near or on top of an existing text box, press and hold the SHIFT key and this will for PSE to make a new text box.

That's a cool tip, Susan! I usually make the new text very far away, then drag into position. I like your way better. :)

Do you mean "force PSE"? And I assume you mean to do this with the text tool selected? And that after you hold the shift key, you click on the spot?

Thanks.

Jon, when I have the text tool selected and just click on top of an existing text box PSE thinks I want to add more text to it. Especially if the text box is large and has lots of text such as a block of journaling.

But... if I press and hold the SHIFT key and click, even if it's directly above the current text box, then PSE understands that I want to create an entirely new text box and creates it on a new layer. That's what I mean by "force".

Hey.... I just do what works! HTH!

Val, glad ya like the tip!
