Trying to add effect

I am wanting to use the Brush strokes effect. I am adding it to text. I could do this in Elements 4 but cant do it now in 6.

If I draw something it will work. why not if I type a word.

Never mind, Have to do what I did in a different order.

I spend to much time on here and dont do any house work.:eek::D

I would imagine that you have to simplify the text first before applying a filter.

I had simplified and done everything in the same order that i had written down.

for some reason I had to outline it first for it to work.
