Hello guys,

One of the family members accidentally drag the Photoshop Elements 6 from the Application folder to the Trash Bin. (Emptied the trash bin as well).

When I tried to reinstall it gave me the error below:

"Javascript Alert critical error found in set up
An incompatible payload already installed. Please see the set up log for details."

I cannot find any documentation from the adobe site that would help me manually remove any existing files of PS Elements 6 on my mac computer.

The only thing I can think of is to format the hard drive which would be really not acceptable.

- I tried using appzapper but it needs the program to be in the application folder.
- Creating a new user account also did not do the trick.
- CS3 Clean script from adobe website did not work either. (as it would only be for CS3 apps)

Please help me in tracing the files I may have to manually delete on the Mac OS X (10.4.11) system.

Thank you

First do a search for photoshop elements and delete any files. Then go to /MYHD/Library/applications support/adobe/photoshop elements. There should be a folder there labelled "6.0". Trash it. Hopefully there are no hidden files causing a problem.

This is direct from the readme that came with my PSE6....I hope this is of some help

You must install with an account that has Administrative privileges
We don't force you to uninstall previous versions of Photoshop Elements; some people prefer to keep the older, familiar version around as they come up to speed with the new version's features.
To uninstall Photoshop Elements 6, you MUST USE THE INSTALLER'S UNINSTALL OPTION; do not drag the program to the trash to uninstall it.

Hi ...

This is the first version of Elements that Mac users need to uninstall and not simply drag into the trash ... I'm not sure what you do next and think that you maybe need to phone Adobe ...

Hello guys,

I have heard of this happening when someone tries to uninstall or reinstall PSE6 using the setup program from a build of the program that is not exactly the same as the one they used to install the program in the first place.

Basically, if you are trying to use the setup program from the retail version, but your installation originated from the trial version, then the installer will detect that and give the error.

If you by any chance have more than one DMG install file for this software, try the install program from each of them. It could be you forgot which one you used.

Did you ever get this sorted out?

I am keen to learn if you solved the problem and how.

I think most of the time you can simply just drag the application to the trash and it's over. But some applications have an un-installer. Maybe Elements is one of the un-installer types. If that's the case you might have to find that. Use spotlight and see if you can find it.

The Photoshop Elements Installer/Uninstaller alias is found in /Application/Utilities/Adobe.

However, executing that will ask the user to put in the correct install disk, or, alternatively, make sure that the original DMG archive used to install the program is open.

Guess that is the point--which installer did the OP originally use?

FWIW, I have emulated the users problem. After setting a Time Machine time point, I deleted the /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 folder and emptied the trash. I then reinstalled from the DMG I used to install the original program. No error. I then went ahead and restored my original folder from Time Machine since I do have some plug-ins and brushes not in the original install. But the point is I was able to reinstall after doing exactly was the OP said was done. This suggests there is something going on other than just deleting that folder.
