Our company has just purchased Premiere Elements 4.0 to create avi files to be used on our electronic sign. However, I'm having problems resizing the frame size. I can get to the screen (under Project Settings) but the program does not allow me to change the size there.
Currently, it is defaulting to 720 X 480. I need a frame size of 728 X 64.
Hope someone can help me.

In the opening setup you can leave the Project Preset at NTSC DV Standard or whatever, but, after you open the program and find yourself in the Edit Mode, go to the Edit Menu/Preferences/General and uncheck the option "Default scale to frame size". That will take care of the Timeline content being scaled to the frame size of the Project Preset. When you get around to export, you can set the export frame size depending on how you are electing to export.
What type of avi is the export type you are going for? AVI is just the wrapper which can have different types of compression...DV AVI, Microsoft AVI, AVI Motion JPEG, AVI MPEG4..... If you are heading for export DV AVI, the frame size is 720 x 480 pixels (non negotiable).
I will think about this some more.

Thank you for the reply. However, when I try to export the file, again, I cannot change the frame size to my specific size of 728 wide and 64 high. It only lets me change it to industry standards. Any other suggestions?
As for the question about which type of AVI ... I'm new to video editing, so I'm not sure. I just know that our electronic sign uses AVI files. Wish I knew more ...
Thanks again & I hope someone can offer further help.

Exactly what route are you using for the export? Please give details. For example, when you select Share, are you going to the PC category, Disc category, followed by what?
The Electronic sign manual or manufacturer must have somewhere specifications beyond "AVI" and the frame size that you quoted. Have you looked into the file format requirement at that level or contacted the manufacturer for the information.
We need to know what file type that you are targeting for and how you are trying to export your Timeline material. BTW what is the source of your Timeline material, video, stills (formats)? There are export choices that will permit you to set the frame size. What is your requirement for frames per second, 25, 30, 60?

I came across the following write up in Premiere Elements 4 Help that I thought you might want to review if you have not done so already.

There may be other issues involved in your project, but the above is handy information to have.
