In Premiere Elements 3.0 I want to create a blank black scene that I want text to appear but I can't figure out how to create the blank scene.

Kathy,

In PrEl2, at the bottom of the Media pane, there is a "New Item" button (looks like a page with one corner folded) that, when clicked, offers a menu of things to auto-create. One of the items is "Black Video".

I'll bet that PrEl3 has a similar feature - maybe in a slightly different locale.

HTH,

Byron

There is a free tutorial here

All about adding special clips, Black video, Color Matte, Counting Leader, check it out.
This is for version 2 but as Byron says it is very similar in version 3 :)

The use of the black video via Premiere Elements' New Items has been suggested, giving the location of the feature in Premiere Elements 2 and adding that the feature is similar in Premiere Elements 3.

Features tend to remain the same from version to version, it is the relocation of those features from version to version that is the challenge.

If any doubts or trouble, go to your program's Help, and, type in "Black Video" in the Search section. It should bring up a file "To create and add a black video clip" specific for your version.

Often it is not the "principle of the thing" but the "location of the thing" that needs addressing.

Please let us know if we can assist you in the placement of the title created over the black video.

I have Premiere Elements 2 and 4, not 3.

And I have versions 1, 2, 3, 3.0.2, and 4, so not to worry :)

That is good to know. Thanks.

So, in Premiere Elements 3 do you right click a blank area where the media is located and select "New Items" like you do in Premiere Elements 2? Other? Premiere Elements 4 route through the Project View/Media is something else to get to New Items.

In version 3 there is a small 'paper' icon below the More and close buttons, top right corner of the Media Panel, this is the link to the New Items.

Thanks for the information.

In Premiere Elements 2, I got so accustomed to right clicking the empty area where the media goes to get to New Item that I overlooked the New Item icon included with other icons at the bottom of the Media Palette.

In case any Premiere Elements 4 people are following this thread and are looking for New Item, you need to go to the Project View. The New Item icon is toward the top right.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I followed Byron's suggestion and was able to create a "black video". This is perfect and thank you all for your comments.
