I've searched everywhere. Is it true Photoshop Elements 4.0 does not provide screen capture capability?

No Photoshop Elements product ever provided this ability (as far I remember). You need to rely on your Operating System (Mac OS or Windows) for that. Once you've captured a screen, you can do a File / New /*Image from clipboard.

Hope this helps,

Windows : PrintScreen (for full screen) or
Alt - PrintScreen for current front screen.

Mac OS : Shift - Command - 3 for full screen,
Shift - Command - 4 for a selection,
Shift - Command - 4 - Space to select your desired window (including document and application icons)

Wendy, remember I'm a former Windows guy (MS Office certified). I used to do Windows almost 24/7. But it's been almost 2 years now. However, not having the real thing close makes providing help a little more complicated. Virtual PC is fine for some task, but graphics isn't one of them.

For Windows there is a very good fully customizable screen grabber GrabCaptureScreen, http://www.boumchalak.net/content/view/18/39/

You can customize it to save in any directory you want, set the file type for each programme . . . . etc

Just took this, don't worry if it looks blurred my screen resolution is low at the moment

Thanks for the help. I'm familliar with how to use CTRL/Print Screen. I've been using Photo Suite since Windows 95, which has a button allowing selected capture. You can capture individual windows on your screen or select the area with your mouse. I've seen this feature on other packages and assumed that it was basically a standard that all packages would provide. I guess I can't get down to a single photo package!

Thanks again, cc

The Mac also has a tool called 'Grab', which gives you a lot of choices as to what you grab, and saves it in TIFF.

There is also a great screen capture program called Snag It. Its the best I've seen and very easy to use.

I'll second Matt's endorsement of SnagIt. I think it's $50 or so, but it's great.
