View Full Version : Elements 6 For Mac Update

I'm running Leopard on a iMac and have purchased and installed Elements 6. When opening Elements this morning, I was notified of an update. I downloaded and after the installation a pop-up informed me that software couldn't be found. I noticed the update included updates for RAW files and also updates for CS3. I don't have CS3 so am I correct in assuming my updates were installed except for the CS3 update? Why would an update for Elements include an update for CS3?
Thanks, Doug in AK

You need to go back and read carefully what messages came with the notification, but this is what I think took place.

You received notification to update your Camera Raw. You probably had version 4.3.1.31 or something earlier than the latest version 4.4.1. The Camera Raw 4.4.1 version is the same one used in:
Adobe Creative Suite 3
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 or 6.0.
So, the download could be used by anyone having the above software in Windows.

Let us check if your Camera Raw is updated to the 4.4.1 version. If not, you can update it yourself with the link at the top of my response. But, the following route is for checking to see what you have before you attempt your own download from Adobe:

Program Files
Windows Explorer
Adobe
Photoshop Elements 6
Plug Ins Folder
File Formats
Camera Raw...right click, select Properties, select Version. What does it say. If anything less than 4.4.1..., then download/install from link above.

Let me know what happens.

for my Elements 6 - on a Mac there was no Camera Raw plugin in the File Formats folder. I did download the 4.4.1 and should I assume that I should drag it into the File Formats folder?

Reflections..............

I am a PC (Windows XP) type person who has not ventured into Leopard and iMAC. So,.....

Are you using Photoshop Elements 6 for MAC?

If so, you may want to use the following Camera Raw 4.4.1 for MAC download instead:

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3895

I still think the issue is that Adobe was trying to have you update your Camera Raw for Photoshop Elements 6, and there may have been some cross lap in the language detailing what versions use that version. There is a CS3 for MAC which probably can use this Camera Raw version.

If by any chance you are using a Windows Operating System and Photoshop Elements 6 for PC and have Premiere Elements 4 as well, you may want to update Camera Raw to 4.4.1 in Premiere Elements 4 also.

Bruce and Doug,

My first response was from the point of view of a Windows user. On reflection (see my last post)...

Go to the Adobe Camera Raw 4.4.1 for MAC download and follow the download/installation instructions on that download page.

Let me know how you do.

I'm running Elements 6 on an iMac (OSX10.5.2 Leopard) I just tried the updater again and the following updates are listed for my software:

Adobe Bridge CS3
Adobe Camera RAW 4
Adobe ExtenScript Toolkit 2
Adobe Help Viewer 1.1
Adobe Elements 6
Adobe Stack Photos CS3
Updates to all CS3 products

Now, obviously I don't have CS3 so I'm wondering which updates boxes I should check in my updates preferences before I attempt to update again?

ATR - thanks - I'm one that sometimes get impatient or doesn't scroll all the way down for install instructions - did as you and the site said and both programs started up fine.
Thanks for guiding thru.

I just did the same and both programs open so I assume the plug-in works. I still can't understand the problem with the updater. Hopefully Adobe will get this worked out. I purchased Elements 2 and Elements 4 when I ran a Windows box and loved the software. I converted to Mac back in December and have patiently awaited the Mac version (Elements 6). This version looks like the best yet! :D

Thanks guys!!!!!!

Doug and Bruce,

I am glad you completed the update. You can always go into the program files to verify that the updated version is 4.4.1.

I do not know about you, but I keep Camera Raw updated even though I do not have a camera that shoots Camera Raw. So, I needed to find some camera raw images for practice.

I found the following site from which you can download camera raw images for practice with your Adobe Camera Raw.

Add on....

I have downloaded these camera raw images and opened them (without problems) in Photoshop Elements Camera Raw (Windows Operating System). They can even be opened in Camera Raw of Premiere Elements 4.

Doug, accept all updates. Adobe Bridge CS3 ships with PSE6.

As for the Camera Raw 4.4.1 plug-in, if in doubt simply download it from the ling you were given and put it manually in the folder required, which is DIFFERENT from PSE4. Camera Raw belongs in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/File Formats/CS3 (I think, I am on a Windows machine now and doing this from memory!)

hope you sort it out

shrinkle1964,

Thanks for your help. Now that I've updated RAW, I'll run the updater again and see if it can find the software to update. I realize Bridge CS3 is included but after downloading the updates, I received a dialog box with the message that software could not be found. I'll try again.
Thanks, Doug in AK

Odd thing, I just ran the updater again, this is after installing the updated RAW plug-in and the dialog box shows software is up to date. Before installing the plug-in, it showed six updates available.
Cool, I guess!!

Thanks again! :)
