Ray-I'm so glad-another Mac user who knows Final Cut Express. I recently bought it as well, and haven't tried it yet, like you, not enough hours in the day... :D

It would be great if you added your tips and tricks, they're always great-the more the merrier!

I got Final Cut Express as a gift, last year, when I converted 3 years of the Bad Girls British TV series from VHS to DVD for my brother. After the work was done, I invited them over for dinner (and not the other way around, because my turkey is better then theirs.. funny but true !!), when they came here, they showed me a bag with a big white box in it..

FCE !!! :-)

And, on the internet, I spotted an inexpensive version 1.0 of Motion. Those are the two projects I'm persuing at the present time (including Carrara, but that's over lunch at work, when I can..)

Wendy, some time ago you posted a Clouds tutorial. Can't seem to find it now. Looks like it was lost with the new forum. Do you have a link to it? I did a search and found a link you posted that doesn't work...

Don't go to any trouble. If it's handy, pass it along.

Wendy,

If I may ask, what broken links are you referring to. And in which tutorials.

I'm assuming you did not change any wording...am I correct?

Dorrie

Wendy
May 17th, 2006, 03:44 AM
Hi Dorrie ...

Its not the words ...

I post the images onto Pixentral and after they have been viewed a certain number of times (not sure how many) then you get a message about the bandwidth having been exceeded for the day and try again the next day. Next day its the same message and its not possible to see the image again.

At that stage someone normally sends me a provate message and I just repost the image again and change the link in the tutorial ...

So if anyone does find a tutorial where the image link doesn't please let me know and I'll sort it out ...

Many thanks
Wendy

I am trying to follow your photo album tutorial. I got lost on step seven:

7. Then add a layer style to it. Layer Style>Bevel>Sharp Inner Bevel.

I cannot get to this. I go Layer>Layer Style and the only thing that is not greyed out is Hide all effects.

What am I doing wrong?

Joe

Wendy
October 30th, 2006, 04:34 AM
Hi Joe ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

To Add a Layer Style you need to go the the Styles and Effects Pallette ... that should be on your screen over to the right. If not just do Window>Styles and Effects and make sure that it is checked.

Then go to the Styles & Effects Palette ... Select Layer Styles in the first box and then Bevels in the second one.

Thanks for the tutorial Wendy! :)

I got to play with some new areas (for me) in Photoshop Elements, and after about two dozen attempts I managed to get a half-decent swirl on my egg with the help of my graphics tablet.

Just a few questions, if that's OK with you:

1. The shadow you've done doesn't look as if you've blurred it. Am I right? It looks great as it is, and fits well with the pseudo-illustrative style of the egg.

2. Where did you get the flower custom shape from? The ones that come with Photoshop Elements 5 seem a little over complicated for a chocolate egg.

3. Love the wood texture you've used for the background... did you add some depth-of-field to it by using some blur on it?

Now on to adding a ribbon... ;)

Thanks again,

Phil

Hi Phil ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

Hey you are just up the road from me ... well not too far away as I am just north of Nuneaton !!

First thing is do let us see your Easter Egg :) ..

The shadow has just the tiniest amount of blur probably not more that 2 or 3 pixels, the funny thing is that shadow in real life are actually are a lot crisper than you think. I just love shadows ...

The flower custom shape is one I made myself ... I use CS2 as well so I can make my own shapes. Sadly you can't do that in Elements ..

... and the wood well that actually is a photograph of a wooden floor. Not quite sure where I picked it up but I do use it a lot :)

Glad that you enjoyed the tut ...

Hi, Wendy -- I just saw your images in the mini tutorial - Fun with Gradients. How did you do that? Are you working off of one layer or many layers?

I've given it a try, but I can't get individual areas like you had. Do you have a screen shot of what you did?

They are absolutely stunning!

TIA

Wendy
April 29th, 2007, 07:44 PM
Hi Carol ...

Its a couple of years ago since I did those ... so I don't still have the images.

However each image was simply on one layer ... and its just a case of experimenting with them until you get something you like :)

Thanks, Wendy. I will give it a try. Your directions say white, but it looks like your background is black. Correct?

Wendy
April 30th, 2007, 03:30 AM
Hi Carol ...

When you use the gradient tool set to difference it changes the color of the background each time you do another stroke. The key is changing its mode to difference and then using one of the preset gradients ... :)

Wendy,

I tried to open a few of your mini tuts and got the old page saying that I am not a subscriber.

I am fairly new to forums and may not understand--this Elements Village page, is that the new forum's name? Is the old forum taking a new name?

Is there any way to access these mini tuts if I am not a paid subscriber on the old forum?

As you can see, the brain doesn't always work right and I remain in a state of constant confusion.

THANKS for the link BAYLA. (Sorry if that is repeat as I am not real familiar with the template.)

I am FAR from the level of even starting on Stain Glass designs.
I am still attempting to understand LEVELS, plus everything else in that area.
I shall use Wendy's Levels mini-tutorial after the Holidays to work on same! She seems to have the knack of explaining various items to those of us so challenged. (After attempting two books on Photoshop Elements, I sort of just plain gave up!!)(Why books are not rated (say 'Beginner' to 'Advanced') is beyond me!!)
Oh I'd love to see some Photoshop Elements video tutorials - even just one! However it seems like those in the business figure it is not worthwhile. (I have ordered the one offering, thus I may see something?)
I cannot however, see combining Imaging and Video in Photoshop Elements? They are two entirely different fields. (I know!, too much rambling!!)
Thanks Again, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

OK. Let's start at the beginning. You are posting in a thread about Wendy's mini tutorials. That's all they are - tutorials, you just click on them, read them and then follow instructions to make things. They are not zip files, so maybe you are talking about something else and if so, what:confused:

Bayla

EDIT: I suddenly had a thought. Are you perhaps talking about Wendy's downloads in the Subscriber area? They are zip files.

Bayla

starkarlis
January 2nd, 2008, 04:54 PM
I have downloaded all of them from the users page. I just upgraded from 3 to 5.

Thanks

Bayla
January 2nd, 2008, 05:54 PM
OK. Let's start with the brushes. If they are zipped you first need to unzip them. They will have an .abr extension. You need to put them in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Presets\Brushes

Is that clear so far?

Bayla

Did you also download Wendy's Orb action? If so take a look at THIS POST (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showpost.php?p=228988&postcount=5) by Wendy - she explains better than I can how to install it!

An option may be to change our setting from Large Thumbnail to Stroke Thumbnail. Then you can at least see how your brush will stroke like in a lighter background compared to a black brush point with a dark background.

I am not a subscriber. I only subscribed to the Retouching on-line course. Great course. I should probably pay for the Layers course. I really like the on-line courses. Each lesson is less than 5 minutes of video. My only wish is that I could take the classes as my own pace and not have to wait until the next day to view a new lesson.

Hi LaDonna ...

It really is worth subscribing ... not only do you get the 8 newsletters a year but your also get access to the subscriber area and there are over 300 tutorials in there.

So its great value :)

I have not taken any classes yet at KelbyTraining, but my understanding was from reading other threads here at the Village is that you can watch more than one video per day if you wanted to. When the Elements classes were under the PET website, at that time you did have to wait for a new day to watch the next video.

Am I right or wrong on this?????

If you would like, you can save the videos to your hard drive, or preferably an external hard drive. You can save all the videos or just the ones you would like to save. If you save them all, that will take some time as there are soooo many!

They are great. I am finally into 2006! Lots of notes taken and sometimes I actually remember how to do what I just saw....
A slow process (the watching) but well worth it. Plus it is just fun to see what Dave Cross is going to do @ the end.

Wendy does have a new tutorial in the subscriber area. A fold out frame. I did not see it posted. So i thought i would mention it. Besides i thought you might take a lot and let me know how you like my results in the previous post. :D I know Wendy is under the weather and i did not see it posted so i thought i would be a loud mouth.
