Hello, I'm having problems replacing the scene menu background picture in Premiere 4. I've been able to shrink the template background to a reasonably narrow band at the bottom of the scene menu. So for the most part my replacement background picture dominates, but the narrow band of the template background is still visible. Can someone advise me of the correct procedure for replacing the scene menu background pictures?
Thank you,

You are in the Create Menus section of the interface.

You make your DVD Template selection and drag it into the Monitor (if you have Timeline scene markers in place beforehand, you should see a Main Menu as well as a Scene Menu in the Image Bin below the Monitor)

Select the Scene Menu in the Image Bin so that it is displayed in the Monitor

Go to the right of the interface/Menu Background and select Browse

Browse to the location on the hard drive to find the background image of your choice, select it, and click on Open. The replacement background should fill the window.

Are you doing all that, and it is not working? If so, what is the name of the specific Premiere Elements 4 template with which you are working? And, give more details on your procedures.

Add on thoughts,

If you are doing the procedure as I described it and are still getting the narrow band of previous background showing, you could also try clicking on the Monitor and moving your cursor to a corner or edge of the image (look for the double sided arrow) and then click/drag the image out a bit via that corner or edge.

That's a relief. That's what I finally had to do too.
I tried everything I could think of to get rid of some things and ATRs above :psuggestion was the only way I could get it out of the picture.......

I had followed the procedure you outlined in the first step using the <sports\racing> template which left me with the bar at the bottom. By following your suggestion in message 2 I have managed to shrink the bar to a square box - just off the background. It still shows in the preview screen, but may not when I burn to DVD?? I tried to upload a picture to illustrate but was unable to locate the PixCentral site mentioned in the 'How to use Forums' section'. I guess it's just not my day! Thanks for your help, hopefully it will work.

Best you had specified the template at the start...

The suggestions that I made were general ones which seem to apply to most situations, BUT not this one.

First, let us define the location of the DVD Template in question:
Program Files/Adobe/Premiere Elements 4, DVD Template Folder/Sports/Racing and the appropriate .psd file for the scene menu.

If you look at that .psd file for the scene menu template, you will see that it was created with the Background Layer with its contents being just "the stands and the red car". That checkerboard graphic with the red topping is in a layer set above the Background Layer. So, if you change the Background from within Premiere Elements 4 Create Menus Menu Background Browse, all that you will be able to change is the area where the stands and the red car are shown.

I would think that you are going to have to go into the .psd file in Program File route described above and turn off the graphic set layer. Maybe make your complete background change at that level rather than within Premiere Elements.

If you are going to attempt an edit of the original template, then I strongly advise you to make a copy, put the original on the Desktop for safe keeping, and work with the copy.

Those are the general principles that I think govern your specific situation. The remedy is open for discussion. Review the above and, if need be, I will try to work this .psd edit through step by step within the next 24 hours or so.

Let me know how serious you are about replacing that background before I try this.

Add on....

What you see in the DVD Preview before burn is what you should get.

Add add on......

Do bother about the upload. I think I got the picture by looking at that DVD Template design structure.

You may know this already, but just in case....in my scenario....

the editing of the .psd scene menu file (Premiere Elements 4) is done in Photoshop Elements.
