View Full Version : Searching with tags, hiding images that do not match

I don't get it. When I click on a tag to search for >>People >> Family >> Uncle George, Aunt Susan and Cousin Bill, a few images disappear, but most images remain visible, the non-matching ones with a red circle slash sign in one corner. I am unable to view just the images that match my search. I don't want to have to alt-click on all my other tags to hide other images.

The options menu doesn't give an option to hide the images that don't match, only gives an option to hide images that do match. What am I missing?

Thanks

In my very old version there are checkboxes next to the words "Best" "Close" and Not in the Find bar. Best is "contains all tags", Close is "contains at least one of the tags", Not is "contains none of the tags". I can check and uncheck the boxes to determine which are visible. I don't know if this feature is in 5/6 or where it might be.

Which version are you using?

Hope I have bumped this up to where someone with 5/6 might be able to help.

I'm using PSE 6 on Windows XP Pro.

If you’re really seeing the red circle with a slash, there’s nothing you can do about it -- that's how PSE 6 works. See this thread:

You might want to uncheck the option “Show Closely Matching Sets for Searches” in Edit > Preferences > General. This won’t change the behavior you’re observing, but it ensures that if you select multiple tags, you’ll only see the photos that have *all* of the tags.

Thanks for your help. That totally blows sulphur into a head wind. Highly annoying. Needs fixing. Thanks again for your help.

One other thing to note is that if you have stacks of images and one image in the stack matches the search then the whole stack will show with the red circles for the ones that don't match.
