I recently saw a photo where one vertical pixel had been selected from a photo and then brushed (?) across the page...like a swoosh. Sorry for the language, but am not sure what to call it. Without the proper language I can't research how it is done or how to do it. I saw a similar effect done in the Layers Magazine by Dave Cross except that he was teaching something else and it did not say how to make the striped effect across the layer. Anyone know what I am talking about or could help? Thanks.

To do pulled pixels - I like to use the preview page from the scrapbook kit I will use on my scrapbook page.
I open the preview page - select a thin slice of the page using the marquee tool - it doesn't matter whether it's vertical or horizontal.
control j puts it on it's own layer
Turn off the original layer using the eyeball found at the left edge of the layer in the layer's palette
While on your selection layer - click on the move tool and use the bounding box's center arrow to pull the pixels to fill the page.
For a vellum look - turn the opacity down on the pulled pixel layer.

Hi,
To follow what Janice said, you can make the layer stripped looking, copy that layer and rotate it 90 degrees. This layer needs to have the opacity reduced so that the other layer can show through. There you have a plaid!
