Save for Web question

I'm trying to resize (both pixel dimensions and resolution) some large images to send by email. I'm trying to use "Save for Web" which seems to work great. I can set my resolution for Low, Medium or Maximum then I can set my dimensions to about 600 X 450 and hit "Apply". The screens tells me this settings should size the file down to about 288K. I hit "OK" and "Save As" and pull it up again and it looks unchanged at over 5 Meg. What have I missed?

I think you are probably opening the original image again. I always rename the image and usually save it to a different folder, often on my desktop. In your case, you may want to name a folder "Email Images" or something like that. With Save for Web your original image is preserved with the original file name...

Thanks for the help. At first I was trying to save using the same name but I had later saved under a similar name with no change but after your suggestion I saved using new name in a different folder and THAT seemed to do the trick.
