I went back into an old thread about accessing fonts stored in the C:\Windows\Font folder. None of the true type fonts I've downloaded are available in PSE.

One suggestion was to open the font before opening PSE and then open PSE and the font will be available in the font menu. It worked! However - what if I want these new fonts I've downloaded to show up in the PSE font menu all the time?

Thanks for your help - I have PSE 5.0 and Vista. Lots of memory.

You need to put the fonts you downloaded in the fonts folder that is located in your control panel (Fonts folder). They should then be available to you in all your applications. I don't know if the fonts folder is located in control panel in Vista, I use XP, but where ever your windows fonts folder is located that where they need to go.

Jancy is right, the fonts folder for Vista is to be found through the Control Panel.

Just a word of caution - too many fonts installed in Windows will really make using your text tool in PSE very cumbersome.

Be judicious about installing fonts permanently.

I know using temporary fonts can be a hassle because you need to have PSE closed before you open an uninstalled font, but for things like Christmas fonts - keep them uninstalled and deal with the hassles because having too many fonts to go through in PSE is a real hassle.

DONT FORGET. When you use a temporary font to create a project in PSE - before closing that project - you need to turn that text layer into a graphic by simplifying it - or else - the next time you open the project, PSE will substitute another font.

Thanks for your suggestions - I was wondering, however, if the new downloaded fonts are located with the other fonts, where they're supposesd to be, but are not available in PSE, how do I go about making them available other than opening them up on a temp basis when PSE is closed.

I don't have that many fonts at present and would like to include a few more in the PSE fonts menu - permanently. I know they "should" be accessible in all applications when they are downloaded, but they're not accessible in PSE. Is there a way to make them accessible? Like exporting them? I'm at a loss as to why they won't show up in PSE.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi alenasmama,
did you put fonts into the windows font folder?
Can you see them there?
You can go and look at the font folder.
I have XP.
Go to: My Computer > Right Click > Explore > C: > Windows >
scroll down past the updates to Fonts.
Check if the fonts are there.
The list is alphabetical.

Also something to try: Close Elements and open it up again.
Do I dare ask:
Did you unzip them before putting them in the folder?
Sorry, don't mean an offense. But I have done this before.
