I will give it a try. How about you, Colin?
Did you notice that a registered user of 1.3 can invite friends to join for the full length of the beta?

Jeez, already stumbling! Which do I download - 32 bit or 64 bit? I've no idea what that means...

Julie....
It depends on your operating system. If you're using WinXP SP2 then just go for the 32bit version.
I've not had much time to play as I'm working away at the moment. I'll play some more in the hotel - but one thing that looks interesting is the Selective Adjustments. You can 'sort of' mask an area and apply develop settings to just that.

Matt has a good summary on his blog (http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/2008/its-lightroom-20-baby-beta-that-is/#comments) about the beta and also cites some learning resources.
Anyone can try the 2.0 beta for 30 days. If you are not a registered Lightroom user and want to try the beta for the full term (until August), send me a pm and I'll invite you...

Her's a quickie trying out the new Post-Crop "Vignetting" control. Everything seems to work great on my XP platform. Just a picture taken the other day with diffused flash in our bedroom of my daughters Picture.

Rob, I don't believe there's anything new in that regard in LR 2 Beta. However, here's a workaround from a forum on photo.net:
Lightroom - Exporting

I am currently using Lightroom v 1.0. I would like to be able to export photos that have been worked on in Lightroom to Shutterfly. Please let me know if you know how to do this. Thanks.

- In the Library module, select which images you want to export.
- Choose the File->Export command
- Set the destination directory, file naming, format (JPEG, TIFF), bit depth and sRGB colorspace, set the sizing limits in H and V if you want them to be a certain dimension, and select whether to put a watermark and strip the EXIF data.
- Click the Export button.
Once it's done, you have a directory full of files that you upload to Shutterfly using their web tools.

I'd be interested to know if 2.0 lets you use your arrow keys to scroll down through presets - for some reason the lack of this in 1.0 frustrated me more than anything else!
Thanks to any brave beta souls...

Nicole, I gave it a quick try and the answer is NO. I still had to use the mouse.

Rats!!! Well maybe they'll put it in the final version - or maybe it's more tricky to add to the software than one would expect.
Thanks for testing though - I truly appeciate it.

Rob,
Would that be similar to the export plugins which Jeffrey Friedl has written and made available through his blog
http://regex.info/blog/2007-11-16/637
That is, would such a functionality for printing require that someone write a plugin for exporting to the printing services?

In the LR 2 Beta Print module, you can Print to JPEG rather than a physical printer. Then, I would guess, you can link up the folder of print-ready JPEGs to Shutterfly. I've never tried to use an online printing service, so I don't know how involved that last step might be....

I think so, yes. He's done plugins for Picasa, Flickr, Smugmug & Zenfolio.
I just wish there was an easy way to put a border on a photo and then use the export function to upload directly to the photo host for printing, rather than having to put your border on in the PRINT panel, print to JPG (new feature I believe in Lightroom 2) and then upload those JPG's...

Shane.

Shane,
I use the Mogrify/Lightroom plug-in to add borders on export. Here (http://lightroomers.com/export-plugins/32/) is a link on Rob Sylvan's Lightroomers blog which will get you started if you want to look into it.
Note: I found the procedure to install the necessary program and plug-in a bit hazy. You must install ImageMagick from here (http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php#windows) (self-installing), then install the LR/Mogrify plug-in from here (http://timothyarmes.com/lrmogrify.php). When installed your Export dialog will include the Mogrify options, including up to 5 borders of varying widths and colors. This info is for Windows - I read that for Mac it is trickier.

Yep, I looked into that too, I was trying to do it at work and couldn't as I am not an administrator but the instructions were rather confusing. I believe though that for Mac it should be easier as according to http://timothyarmes.com/lrmogrify.php?sec=faq you don't need to install ImageMagick on the Mac for Mogrify to work.
I downloaded the Lightroom 2 Beta last night at home and tried the print to JPG method and this seemed to work very smoothly with nice control over the borders. Simple borders via the stroke panel and your own borders via templates.
Now just have to wait for official release of 2!
Shane.
