View Full Version : Uninstalling Premiere Elements 4

I am working with a download version of Premiere 4. I have not made a copy of the program files and want to do so before performing an uninstall. I'd like some advice on what needs to be copied in order to preserve the program in the event that I decide to reinstall. Admitting my ignorance here! Is it the folder on my desktop called Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 that contains this:

Or is it all of the contents of the the folder under c:/Program Files/Adobe/Premiere Elements 4.0?

Thanks much!

Theory.

I am making an important distinction between download of a program and installation of a program.

When you downloaded Premiere Elements 4 tryout, you should have ended up with a Desktop icon that you had to click to start the installation process. Keep that icon. Be careful, even if you have not used up the 30 days of the tryout, Adobe will not give you another free download of Premiere Elements 4.

You should be able to go to Control Panel/AddRemove Programs and uninstall Premiere Elements 4. That should clear its files in the Program Files. If you are still in the 30 day trial period, you should be able to reinstall the program via the Desktop icon that came with the download. With reinstallation should come the return of the Program Files for Premiere Elements.

If you have any projects that you created with Premiere Elements tryout that you are worried about losing, I would use the Project Archiver/Copy option to save these projects.

Check out the above details. Chuck Engels will probably be visiting and browsing the threads later today, so let us see what he has to say about all this. I will be away from the computer for a few hours. When I return I will be sure to see what is happening.

Maybe it was just me, but I had a hard time viewing the details of the image that you posted.

Julie,

Theory continued.....

Just a clarification point....on your Desktop, you should have two Premiere Elements 4 icons:
1. The Premiere Elements 4 icon that you used to install the program that you downloaded.
2. The Premiere Elements 4 icon (shortcut) that you use to open the program that you installed.

It is #1 that you want to keep. Uninstalling the program will get rid of #2 and the Program Files.

ATR,

Just to clarify, this is a purchased download rather than a trial version.

I probably deleted the desktop icon for running the installer. Here is another screenshot (hopefully easier to read) of the contents of the folder on my desktop which is called Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0. If I copy all this to CD then after I perform the uninstall will I use the icon I've indicated with the red arrow to install the program again?

Julie,

Your image was very clear. So, I got a good look at your folders.

Do you have your serial number recorded somewhere? Important.

You are going to burn that entire Premiere Elements 4.0 Folder to DVD disc.

I would think that the "Windows Installer Package" icon would be the one to use to start the reinstallation process, followed by going through the Setup as directed by the screen instructions.

I have never gone down this path of online purchased software, but this sounds like the way to go.

Did you purchase this from the Adobe store, and you register the software? If so, if things get complicated for whatever reason, they usually are there to come to the rescue.

I will be watching for your results.

Hi ATR,

Yes, I purchased from the Adobe store so I figure I can rely on them for help if need be.

I've backed up the whole folder using the Nero back-up utility. I'll give it a whirl now.

Thanks!

Thanks, ATR. All done. It was easier than I expected. The uninstall removed the program files but did not remove the installation files from the desktop. So, I just needed to click on the installer and it ran perfectly.

Unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue I was having but at least I'm back to square one...

Julie,

Glad to hear the good part of your news.

As for the bad part, "...back to square one..", what is happening there? I do not know if I can come up with any suggestions, but I always like to try.

You sound like a good troubleshooter, but if you need any "back seat driver" help, please let me know.

Hi ATR,

I've combed the sites looking for similar problems and haven't found anything that sounded the same. Nevertheless, I've tried some of the solutions offered for similar issues and no luck. I'll gladly offer my problem up for troubleshooting to you and anyone else who might have an idea.

I need to produce a slideshow with music, transitions, and basic pans & zooms. Since Premiere is new to me, I tested a short 3 minute segment. I admit to being gleeful at the ease of production and lack of catastrophic failures (I previously used the bug-prone Pinnacle Studio product for similar projects). However, on playback, the quality of the Premiere product didn't match up to the outcome of projects I had done in Studio. Roughly 1/3 of the slideshow will consist of shots which are similar to this:

http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/16GapfDZRnhlisJN67aibBIFQvL2_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=16GapfDZRnhlisJN67aibBIFQvL2)

On playback, the face mask, gloves, patches on the jersey, and stripes exhibit a shimmer. It does not seem to happen on all the images but I can't establish any real pattern to which ones it does happen to. I have done all sorts of adjustments including resizing to 1000x750 (they are 3504x2336 to begin with), eliminating vertical or diagonal pans, and even eliminating all pans and zooms. Have also experimented with the anti-jitter filter. None of these things seems to have solved the problem. The problem is worse on TV playback than it is on Windows Media Player or Power DVD. I've tried all the adjustments I could think of to the TV and the DVD player and tried 2 different TVs. When I play a DVD I made with Pinnacle Studio it does not exhibit this behavior.

I'd welcome suggestions if you have them!

Julie,

Where are you creating this slideshow? Are you creating the slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6 and then using the Send To Premiere Elements Output option (the non wmv route) or are you creating your slideshow solely in Premiere Elements?

Have you seen the following link from Adobe? It has some flicker issue tips.
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bb815fb

Do you see this flicker in the DVD Preview just before the burn, or is it just in the final product DVD-VIDEO?

If all else fails, have you tried exporting the content of the Timeline to DV AVI (File Menu/Export/Movie). That will result in a DV AVI copy in the Media as well as a copy in the saved location that you designed. Use the DV AVI version of your slideshow for the project and see what the DVD-VIDEO looks like on TV playback.

Hope that some of that helped. If not, we will think about this some more.

Hi ATR,

I am creating the slideshow in Premiere. Is there any advantage to creating in PSE6 and moving into Premiere?

The flicker is evident is the preview screen of Premiere but appears far worse on TV playback.

I have tried the method you mentioned of making a dv avi and then using that to create the dvd in Premiere. Didn't sort it out.

Now, the link you gave has at least one idea I haven't tried and that is to reduce the color range of the affected images. I will investigate that.

Thanks for thinking about this for me!
