Hello All! I am a newb and have signed up for the Photo Retouch online class. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. The video online shows zoom-in on a specific area and the pixels are enlarged and very viewable. I have a 9mb picture, have saved it with a name, but when trying to zoom into a small area of the picture it zooms out of control approximately 1100% I have gone over the video a number of times and I thought I was doing everything right but apparently I'm wrong. Do you need a file that is 10mb plus to be able to do this? I normally shoot between 3 to 5 mb.Could someone clue me in as to what I am missing?
Totally Confused as to where I went wrong.... :?

Hi Linda,
Welcome to the forums...
I'm not sure that you are doing anything wrong... which video are you watching..? Dave is probably using a lower resolution picture than your 9Mb image.
To zoom in 100% double click on the magnifying glass icon...

Hello Mike
Looking at the image information I have a 28.444" x 21.333" picture with the resolution at 72. Looking at a lot of pictures I am seeing the resolution defaulting every time to 72. I have no idea how to change the default to a higher number. At the bottom the "Constrain" is grayed out but checked so I can't do anything with that, the "Scale Styles" is greyed out and unchecked and the "Resample" is not checked and it can be selected. The video I am watching is one that is an On-line class - Portrait Retouching with Photo Elements, instructor is David Cross. Any help is much appreciated. :)

Hi Linda ...
.... and welcome to the forum :)
I suspect that what you are doing is using the zoom tool BUT instead of just clicking on the image you are slightly dragging the tool as you click. If you do that then you will see a selection (little marching ants appear) and you will zoom in to that small area.
So select the zoom tool put in on the image and then just click ... don't move the mouse in any direction whilst you do it.
Try it out and see ... I think that it should fix your problem :)

Linda,
You can also use CTRL =, and CTRL - to zoom on pictures. I find that technique much faster than the zoom tool.
