I get the following error message when I try to use Layer Styles/Image Effects:

"This styles file is bad or corrupted" :shock:

Any ideas how to fix it? It just started today, worked fine up until today.

Fixing this requires a re-install... or I could email the file to you..?

Hi ...

Its worth trying a delete prefs first ... just in case it fixes it :)

Thanks MikeH I will try that file. I am in the middle of a huge project with a deadline and I would really like to avoid the reinstall...

Ok... I will send it to you - just check two things though first - are you on Version 3 or 4 (I have both) and Windows or Mac..?

I'm unable to even open the editor! I get this same error message. I have reinstalled the program, but what is this special file that I need? I'm running Version 3 in Windows. And where do I go to find the preferences file to delet it?

H E L P !!!!!!!

Hi Sue ...

Delete Prefs

To do that close down Elements then click on the Editor start up icon and quickly hold down the Control, Alt and Shift keys (If you are a Mac user Apple, Alt and Shift). Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes.

Do let us know if it fixes it :)

Hi Sue,

Let us know if Wendy's suggestion works... deleting the preferences cures most problems...

But if it doesn't then I can send you the offending file as I did above...
